14 gauge would be more than strong enough. 1.5 x 1.5" square tube will tick all the boxes and not be so heavy that you blow a grape taking it off or putting it on.

I don’t know how you do it brother. If I build the same thing more than twice I start getting bored.

Agreed. I built mine out of 1.5 x 1.5 and 1/8" wall, it is heavy but I had the material on hand from a scrap pile so I used it. If I were to build it again I would do as @koditten mentions, 14ga. Save on some weight and still be plenty strong.

Check the cylinders I venture they are all out of Hydro test depending on your distributors policy flat fee and exchange or flat out refuse to even touch them

 

Yeah it was pretty good, it was an eye opener in the comments section when the self taught “ old guys “ who used oxy for years kept saying they learn something or were doing it wrong for years . There were a lot of those comments.

 

Hahaha I get slightly burnt out every once in a while but I just love being in my little shop and making things. Also a wife and 2 kids depend on me so I’m super grateful to be able to stay working right now building stuff since all the studios are shut down and there are no tv shows or movies to work on right now haha. I’ve built 300+ sets of sliders over the last 4 years and I enjoy it. Building other little things and playing with the plasma table and stuff helps to keep me more sane too hahaha

Have you built a complete set of sliders that every weld was 100% to you satisfaction?

I've built over 300 utility trailers.
There is always a couple welds that I say to myself "Damn!, glad this thing is getting painted".

 

Anyone have experience/thoughts with the Lincoln square wave 200 tig welder?

I’ve always been a miller guy but thinking about picking one up and seeing if anyone has first hand experience for a small tig at the shop and possibly for mobile applications. Coming from using a miller syncrowave 250dx everyday at work (apples to oranges) but still

If your buying new you have 3 Years to Get the Modules Replaced as they fail which seems to happen often

 

That was another point that I would have made. I keep doing it cuz I like getting better with every set. I’m self taught like most of the people in this thread and consider myself a middle of the road welder and fabricator. I really enjoy building stuff and always wanna get better at everything I do. Cliché, but practice makes perfect right? Or at least better hahaha

I totally get it if it’s putting food on your table, then production makes a ton of sense. I always kind of assumed you were like me. I just do it to challenge myself, buy new tools for the shop, and hone my skills, so if I ever get free time I can build stuff for my own truck that looks like a paid a high dollar shop to build it.

Personal growth is one of the reasons I try to vary what I do, don’t get me wrong, there’s a few things that I do a ton of, but they make up a small amount of my fab time. I think by building different stuff it allows me to be creative (which is the part I enjoy most) and it makes me a better fabricator because I’m constantly forced to solve new problems, use new processes, and try to be different at the same time. For me it’s all about learning new skills.

to answer @koditten question. I’ve never built anything that I was 100% happy with. I can’t even look at stuff I welded 6 months ago without being embarrassed. I also can’t build the same stuff over and over again for the same reason. Everything I’ve ever built I’ve found ways to improve it. I always feel like I’m sorta changing m customer when I don’t make the changes I see. Obviously I’m fucked up in the head, but that makes production stuff very hard for me. As my skills improve, my taste and the level I hold myself to goes up. I feel like if I’m no t mplementing that stuff I’m slowing my growth as a fabricator.

 

Guess I’ve never really considered anything outside of the “big two” companies due to the customer support and warranty being a possible issue

 

biggest benefit to HF is you can try it for a week and return it if you don’t like it, that might be thought to do with a place like air gas. I haven’t used their tig welder but I do have a Migmax 215. I would not take it over a miller, but do like it more than the Lincoln 180 I had a few years ago. The consumables on the Lincoln are probably the only thing better than the HF. All their consumables are junk, wouldn’t expect anything different from their tig machines
