Adding better antenna to CB?

    What @EatSleepTacos says is exactly right. There is no "great" cb. I got one because my buddies in Oregon ran them. I use handheld walkie talkies now. They work better and are just all around easier and cheaper than a whole cb setup.

    Honestly that radio you mistakenly posted in your OP is one I've been looking at as it does FRS

    CB, FRS and GMRS are all different things. GMRS and FRS are close enough that you can get both on the same radio, but CB is a whole different animal.

    The two will talk, on certain channels. I was merely pointing out the power difference to try and show how much more range the GMRS will have.

    Think of GMRS as a walkie talkie on steroids. It has channels, and within each channel, a "privacy channel" just like a walkie talkie. On channels 1-7 on a GMRS, they can talk to a walkie talkie.

    Looks like the GMRS license is really just another "tax" and a couple of forms to fill out. No exam, gotta love the ole Tax Man. :rolleyes:

    Yeeeep. In hindsight, I wish I went down the GMRS path vs ham because of the no test thing. Easier to convince others to get on board. I just didn't know it even existed at the time.

    But are hams fun to listen to the way CBs we’re back in the day? There was always some entertainment yo be had on 19. All the videos I watch on ham just shows some guy CQing but never talking to anyone after the where are you and how do you read?

    I had cb for awhile and never really caught anything fun. Don’t think it’s as prevalent as it used to be with truckers.

    It really depends on where you're at. Some places have really active repeaters, others not so much.

    Me either. Caught a few lame conversations a few times. Never anything interesting/ helpful. My CB is almost strictly used for NOAA nowadays. I used it a little when I went back home over Christmas and met up with my old buddies.

    I have 1 but right now social distancing. They are cheap just google it like under $20.00.Off today but back to the front lines tomorrow delivering essentials.
