O2 Sensor help.

2013 4.0 litre. replacing both front O2 sensors. For the life of me can't figure out what tool needs to get them out. They are impossible to get to. Took the front tires off and took out the inner fender well guards. Was able to disconnect the wire but no wrench will fit including an O2 sensor wrench. Anybody?

I have not done the sensors on my 4.0 but all sensors I've seen have been 22mm. Generally I use penetrating oil and my 22mm 6 point long wrench.
Are you able to get a wrench on the sensors or just don't have a wrench that will fit?

I had one of those and it didn't work.
A box wrench did though

 

did you go at it from the top or the fender well?

 

Honestly I couldn’t get any wrench in there. It looked like only a shorty would fit but then you lack leverage.

 

Checked all data at work and they don't say anything special, only pays 0.5 each.
Can you get to the sensor from another location/angle?
I don't have my truck or I would look.

 

I wish I could. I'm no rookie either. As bad of a position as I've seen. Half hour each? Might be worth it to drop them off! LOL

 

I haven't touched my air/fuel sensors with over 300k on the odo. I did swap the O2 sensors chasing down a P0420 code.
I just went out and looked. Oh boy, aren't they in a suck location.
Something like this with a short extension might work. Just a quick Google search and this was the first image I found... Just an example.

I have one. Too short to get past exhaust pipe to be able to access.

a box end/open end would be my first choice

 

I didn't think the box wrench would fit over the plug. I tried after my purpose designed socket failed.
Live and learn...

 

Solved. You can do this without even removing the tires but it is easier to connect the wires with the tires off. I used so penetrating spray, let it sit for 5 minutes then used this wrench from underneath the truck. Done in 30 minutes with both. Thanks for the help everybody....
