Your work electronically is easy because there arnt any you shut this thing off with a vacuum

Its just physically putting the motor in thats the hard part... if a 5 lug hit up @mjbtaco for some of his coilover conversion kits so you can adapt more appropriate suspention shocks and springs

Keep in mind Front sump vs rear sump and the om6xx engines are a mile tall so you may need to snip the hood

Also also comapnies make adapter plates to bolt toyota transmissions behind the om engines so get one of them and a manual trans if you can

Most people say they run into issues with the toyota 4 banger trans behind turbo 3.0s

The autos most common behind american benzes rob a lot of power and have no overdrive

 

maximum torque on that motor comes it at @ 2400 rpm... I would investigate trans and 3rd member gearing before jumping in. You might end up with a totally un-driveable truck.

that means I can use the existing manual trans on the truck.


The motor doesn’t seem to be that tall.

so you are saying that all the electronics from the truck stay separate from the new motor how about all the oil gauges.

would a turbo help iy has to be a litle more powerful than the 2.4 gas engine that I have right now ?

I really want a this diesel swap the guy that told me that this would be an easy to moderate swap he is a mechanic the thing is that i don’t know this guy it was just a random guy that I ask about that is why I bought this engine. For 500 bucks

 

The guy that sold you the engine would tell you anything to get you to buy the engine.

 

Its quite a bit less powerful than the motor you have now om616 diesel 69hp, 2rzfe 142hp

But it cant be worse than the car it was in since its heavier and has a low ratio

In the mercedes the oil guage is a tube that runs from the oil gallery to a mechanical guage

If you can yes use the trans on your truck rn its got a clutch not a crappy torque converter and has an overdrive

So very much more gooder vs the 40 year old auto

 

show us a picture of your truck so we can determine whether or not this configuration would work with that engine type

 

It will its been done before its just if its worth it

 

I don't know much about turbos, but I don't think it will move your power band around. The turbos I've driven all spooled up and gave boost somewhere in the middle of the RPM range, 2500-3500 rpm depending on the motor.

It's a diesel, not meant for speed or a peppy drive. Stick with gas if that's what you want.

I really hope you do it, I wish all my trucks were small diesels, but I drive like a grandma anyway. I very much like the lack of electronics on the old diesel motors.

 

These diesels are different thats why people like em... theyre happy all the way to 5500 rpm and you shift them at 3300rpm

 

I would be looking at a 6.0l powerstoke. In addition to being unreliable they are cheap and not much bigger than a regular big block V8

With head studs, emissions delete, and a tune you can put down 440whp

It was pretty fun to drive in an 8k CCLB superduty, I imagine a small truck would absolutely rip

 

Wiring the truck without the factory engine is a piece of cake. Just did it with my 4bt swapped Tacoma.
be careful using the stock transmission. Not sure what your swapped engine puts out for torque but I know my engine puts out enough torque to eat my stock 5 speed for breakfast.

 

The 2.4l naturally aspirated mercedes diesel with 69hp and 101 ft lb shouldnt hurt it

okey I just want a different toy then every body else can you imagine how many hours of conversation I will have after the swap of this truck, a lot of fun right I bet everybody here will like to try my truck after the swap, and you are free to do so.

I don’t care about how hard this will be, I already took the transmission out of the toy and flywheel, bolts almost fit and so the plate whit a few adjustments I think will fit. But if you would be nice enough to provide me whit the information where to get the plate to fit the tranny on the 616 thanks.

I find that hard to believe that that engine won’t push harder than the litle gas that I have in there now but anyway maybe you have done it before that why but I still I want to doit.

that is why I ask for guidance on the beginning on how to doit not to convince me not to.


Yes I will post pictures of what I have done so far, also of my other toys so you can see that I have the speed already and yes I will swap my trd pro after this and when I get the right motor for it.

I had an issue of Peterson’s Off-road a few years back and it was talking about all the swaps, the pros and cons. If I recall the ONLY diesel swap they spoke of was the 4bt and they still didn’t have a lot of nice things to say about it. There’s a reason for that.

I think everyone that does a swap, no matter what your reasoning is, no matter what your application is, the top end is the end game. Torque is cool and all that, but I think everyone wants something that when they step on it, it’s going to do something.

I understand being different but why not a LS? They’re so common you can get them cheap, so common finding aftermarket parts is easy and cheap... and still common enough to where you can find someone, somewhere, that’s swapped them into whatever vehicle you’re wanting to stuff one into. Plenty of power stock. As far as wanting to be different, just put some kinda crazy power adder that no one would expect. Turbo, Nitrous, etc. Sounds weird, but much more practical I think. And different, that’s different. A LS Yota is rare, and if it boosted, thats even more of a stand out.

 

For me an Ls Toyota is pretty common around my area. I’ve seen probably 6 in the last few months. And yes it’s a lot easier to do an ls or power adder on a stock engine but what’s the fun in that? How many 4bt Tacomas on 40+ tires that can stand their axle on its side and still do 60+ mph?? I like that thought and I’m a diesel mechanic so gassers just won’t do. In my case I don’t exactly care about top end since my truck will be a crawler but even at that with my set up it’s still going to be able to get up and go.. quickly.
Love the fact more people are going out and doing full builds and swaps
