265/70/17 I believe is biggest but many run 285s without a problem. Discount tire would mount my 285 but Costco wouldn’t. You wouldn’t have a problem running skinnies on these.

You could also do a 275/70/17 on a 7 inch rim.

 

285's can be wide or skinny depending on the aspect ratio..

 

Not really sure what you are getting at, the first number is not the height, its the width. So the higher the first number is the wider it is going to be.

 

......depending on the aspect ratio, which is a percentage of the width that equates to height.

 

We are talking about a 17x7 rim. That is pretty wide...

i'm not sure what you're trying to clarify... i get what wheel size you're talking about. I have over 100,00 miles on different sets of 285/75r16's (33x11 ish) on factory 7" wide toyota wheels, and they fit fine. i prefer a narrower wheel for a thinner tire profile and better bead retention at low psi.

right now i run a 285/75r17, or a "skinny" 285 (34.1"x11") on a 7" wide 17" tundra wheel. Maxxis used to make their "buckshot" tires in a 285/85r16... which was about a 36"x10" tire. just because a tire is a "285 width" doesn't mean they are all the same width. the aspect ratio effects the tires width.

 

Thanks for the heads up dude, but I just found out that three of my BP-51s are leaking and I might have to buy a whole suspension instead.

You are basically saying wide and then extra wide. 285 is still wide tire on a 17x7 wheel. You are just arguing your stupid one off case that has nothing to do with the sellers 17x7 SEMA wheels. You must be one of the those people who always has to be "right".

a 285/70/17 is 11.5 ish wide
a 285/75r17 is only 11 wide
and the size i mentioned, which granted isn't made anymore as far as i know, 285/80r17 would be 10" wide

All of the above would be fine on a 7" wheel, depending on your preference, and that 285 is the width measurement, but the aspect ratio effects the width also.

also the sema wheels are 7.5" wide as far as i know there, keyboard wizard

Usually when people are talking wide and skinny tires on there they are discussing 255/85/r16s vs 285/75/r16s or the 17s in similar sizes. But of course there are other sizes but most people don't run hard to come by sizes that are usually expensive.

 

i am the biggest mockery of all bought a 35k tacoma. totalled it 4monsths later. bought a 39k taco and put 25k into it. new, loving this, and wanting to learn.

 

i learned expensive. bought with 35s and 20s. bought 1700.00 of geolanders, for 6 months. i do everything the hard way.
