I've seen that a few people on here are running the 2.5" Elkas. Just wondering if anyone has any experience or insight on the 2.0s? They look pretty good, and I love the idea of buying form a Canadian company. I used to be big into race quads so I'm quite familiar with the Elka build quality. I know there will be a point when my current 6112/5160 combo will give up. I like that the Elkas are rebuild-able and can come with a 650 or 700 pound spring. So has anyone tried the 2.0 yet?

just fyi, you can rebuild the 5160s. you gotta send them into bilstein and they will rebuild them, put a valve on them, and ship them back. that valve makes it rebuild able by any shop after that. I am looking at the elka 2.5's atm to replace my front 5100s.

also, why the 2.0's and not the 2.5s? arnt the 6112's 2.5 inch? would be a good replacement right? and they come in extended lengths from @HeadStrong Off-Road

Oh thanks, I wasn’t aware that was an option with the 6112s. Any idea how much that costs?
And I was looking at the 2 inch mostly because of the price. $1200(Canadian) difference buying direct from Elka. Also not sure if I really need 2.5” shocks anyways? I don’t do much more than fire service roads to get to rivers, camping spots and mountain biking trails.
I also have a steel bumper and would like stiffer springs than what’s on the 6112. So the cost of new springs, shipping to the states To be modified and the rebuild cost, is it really worth it to keep them?

Just to be clear, I'm talking about the 5160 (rear) shocks. Not the 6112 (front). I know mine shipped to hawaii was like 150 each to rebuild and ship. Not sure what it would be like to Canada. Maybe best to look up I'd there us a bilstein dealer up there that can help

Oh ok, sorry, still that’s a good option. Wish the 6112 was rebuildable.

I think HeadStrong Offroad is also the only shop that has the Elka’s in extended travel. I would def go that route. Without getting in to way more money, mid travel is the way to go

I just bought Elka extended travel 2.5 IFP shocks with 650 lb springs for the front and 2.0 IFP shocks for the rear from Marie. Will be replacing my 5100/885 front setup and paired with my Icon 3 leaf AAL in the rear.

I wanted the adjustability of a front coilover but I didn’t want to spend the money on a full 2.5 setup. I went IFP because I don’t do any serious off road driving and I didn’t see the need for remote reservoirs. I opted to go 2.5/2.0 to mirror the Fox kit Marie has on the site and the 6112/5160 setup in size.

After four years on Bilstein digressive valving, I chose Elka for the aluminum bodies and their valving. That and Marie's personal experience on her 4Runner. I’ll probably make a comparison thread once they’re installed and I get a good feel for them.

Def let us know how it is. While your at it, you should change out the entire leaf pack to something else. I just installed the Icon RXT leaf pack. I had a 3 leaf add a leaf before. There is such an amazing improvement in comfort. It even made my front coilovers feel smoother. I don’t hardly feel anything on the highway anymore. I’ve done very light off-roading but it makes a big deference there too.

    Will do for sure.

And I haven’t had any complaints with the rear springs. I waited until I was able to get the Toyota TSB 4 leaf pack installed by the dealer before I installed the AAL. I even kept the overload leaf in the pack and it’s been great.

With that said, I’ve considered upgrading to a full leaf pack but one, I don’t want any more lift in the back (I’m +2” over stock right now) and two, I keep getting scared off by all the complaints about squeaking. If there’s one thing I do really like about my rear spring setup right now, it’s dead quiet. I haven’t researched the Icon RXT leaf pack but I know the dreaded squeak is a common complaint with the OME Dakars...

Here’s some info on the RXTs. There’s also a few threads about them. It comes with an extra leaf to install if you want increased lift and payload. It comes shipped put together as stage 1 and you just slap it on when you get it. It says you get 1.9” of lift with stage 1 and it goes up to stage 3 depending on if and how you use the extra leaf that’s shipped with the pack. I’ve only had mine on for a couple weeks and I’m at about 2” of lift.
I had my overload leaf taken out with my previous 3 leaf and these are way softer and smoother on the road. I don’t know how they do it.

Ugh... why must you tempt me to spend more money. Lol.

And I guess I could try to recoup some of the cost by selling my 5100/885 setup with the AAL stock rear leafs. Hmm... tempting.

Sorry man, my bad! But, it’s worth it and they are super easy to install. Entire pack out, entire new pack in. No fussing with putting the pack together and all that crap

Nah, you’re good man. One of the main objectives with changing out my suspension is for a “softer” ride, especially on the highway. I’ll have to research the Icon RXT a little more because I’d hate to install the new Elka setup and then realize the first time I hit a harsh bump at 70 mph that the rear of the truck is now too “stiff.”

I'm pretty sure I can order extended travel directly through Elka. If so I would go that route as its much more cost effective. Why would I buy a part made in Canada, shipped to the states then back to Canada and pay more for it? lol. About $250 more for the 2.0 package actually($400 for the 2.5)+customs at the boarder. Not knocking Headstrong at all, just in this situation it makes more sense to buy directly from Elka.

I understand what you're saying. I'm just saying that Marie is an awesome person who maybe able to answer your questions even if you dont buy from them. They run an amazing company and have helped hundreds of people get the right lifts. Wouldnt hurt to ask her to get the best information
