I’ve read the HF torches and foot pedal setup are terrible compared to the Lincoln flex head torch. Either would have to be replaced with a stubby gas lense setup anyways

Guess I’d rather spend the money once and not have to deal with anything also. I’ve only had experience with the higher end miller syncrowaves

 

Both torches will allow the use of mfurick or something like the low rider cup setup from ck. I’m super partial to miller foot pedals. The scs are nice ( I have one on my positioner) but I like the big bulky foot pedal like the miller the best.

 

For sure dude!! When I first started building sliders I never really thought it would turn into what it’s turned into as far as how much business I’ve received. One big reason I do it is so that when I’m in between shows or movies for my regular work I can still have an income but also take time off from my regular job and work from home which allows me to spend way more time with my wife and kids. That’s the biggest reason for me. I always get the itch to build new things and try new things as well. I have found though that when I start messing around too much with other things that I take valuable time away from my kids and that becomes counter productive to the reason I’m happy to work from home in the first place. It’s a tough balancing act haha. I do really enjoy building the stuff that Ive been building and of course I want to expand my skill set but also don’t want to take away that time that I could be spending with my kids too. I don’t know if any of that makes sense haha. I got a lot of practice to do before I get to where you’re at. I always enjoy looking through your thread and watching some of the badass things you build!!

 

You're definitely not talking to a rookie or a dumbass here. 7 years a fleet diesel mechanic and 13 years as a trailer wreck rebuild mechanic from 1989-2009. Wreck rebuild is all cut, weld, fab. Rusty, painted, and greasy crap. I carried one of the two blowers below in my pocket at all times. Lightweight and fits in a shirt pocket easily. Don't have to pull a trigger and at 90deg it blows straight down on your head while you hold on to the air hose.
Hell, below that is a stupid mechanic trick for ya. Floating screwdriver.

We are kind of the jack of all trades in the movie industry. There is the rigging side and production side. I mainly do rigging. We have a lot to do with rigging for lighting and rigging for the camera. Large spectrum of things that we do. Just recently got finished with 7 months of rigging on the second season of The Mandalorian

I totally get it. Moving all my tools into the home shop has been a game changer, as far as spending time with the family and productivity. 18 or so months ago I stopped doing cmc’s and cut back a ton on routine jobs like shock relocations and bed racks. I found that I was spending way too much time at the shop. Now I try to avoid all rush jobs and limit the routine stuff. Even at $100/hr it’s not worth working your life away.

After being a code welder for the last 3 years At a Chemical plant, I finally got tired of tigging out nozzles and Or other repairs On tanks and reactors that i could easily be flux coring. I’m Certified in stick and tig, well what about flux core i asked? 6 months later I get some coupons! The last time I tested for flux core was 7 years ago when i started working for a vessel building company. Since i left that company it has been 3 years since I have filled up a V groove.

If you go with the Lincoln 200, look into the extended warranty. I believe its about $150 but extends the warranty to 5 years.
I like the model for the price and function. Look to see if you have any local warranty repair shops in your area.

Fucking around with the new 210 on some old lawn mower blades. Definitely going to invest in some gas... the 3 beads were my first on the recommended setting out of the box, the blade with shit all over it was me just testing different speeds and such getting a feel. Look forward to getting some wire through this and ultimately patching this hole I made today (which is why theres practice tacs on the blade)

 

My first recommendation would be to go pick up some 1/8” thick bar stock from Home Depot it Lowe’s or whatever. Cut in into little sections a few inches long, and then just weld them together trying various joints. Much easier to practice that way and get a feel for it as opposed to just laying a bead on some metal.

 

Had to take a stainless stick test Monday. 309. Motherfuck. Kicked my ass lol. They sent it for X-ray and I’ll be hella impressed with myself if it passes.

 

I would not go to home depot. Youll pay way more than any metal supply store

 

Yeah, definitely will be making a run out for some metal. The welder came in a day early and surprised me lol. My Jeeps' tailgate will be my welding table for practice as I don't have the room currently and its the only flat base thats metal in the garage. Tempted to look toward a plasma cutter as well, my cut off wheel was kind of a pain, and I've got some work to do in other tight areas.
