Mine runs at the stock clock of 1366 MHz and The vram is 2000mhz. I just let AMD software control the fan since it has a zero speed function until a certain temp. I’m sure I’d have better temps if I set the fan curve manually, but I’m not too worried. My cpu maxes out around 60 with the Scythe Mugen 5 which is pretty good I think. The 580 is a placeholder until I upgrade to either a 5700xt or 2070 super

I bought a 960P Optane drive for work. It's a drive built for repeated large scale read/writes. Other than being really good speed and reliability wise for those sort of operations it's no different from any high end SSD but more expensive, it's aimed at the creative and enterprise market. For some odd reason it came with a free limited edition Star Citizen ship. The moment I saw that enterprise equipment was coming with freemium game content I knew the product would, or will be, all flashly adverts and very little game.

It's a shot in the dark but does anyone have a spare ATX z270 1151 motherboard laying around (working) that they would be willing to sell?

Co-workers husband gave me his PC that "wont boot after thunderstorm" and I was just trying to see if anyone here had a motherboard lying around before I bought one online.

Well gentlemen that was the most nervous sweats I’ve ever had, pulled my CPU cooler to check the artic silver application because my temps were higher than expected and the CPU came up with the cooler, trying to get the cooler free of the bracket I bent a few pins on the chip and now 30 minutes of nervous sweating while trying to straighten pins with a pocket knife later I got it to fit back into the chip holder on the MoBo, let’s see if this works!!

Unfortunately my R5 2600 has passed onto the next world, fans will kick on for a split second and then everything dies.
With that said I guess part of my stimulus check will be going to a new CPU, should I go with a 3600? Really the 2600 was more CPU than I need (but it sure was nice to have).

Edit: i went ahead and ordered the 3600, for $50 more I figured it would be worth it for the extra performance 3 years from now.

    Good choice.

Not that it helps you now, but always twist or wiggle the cooler once you've loosened the fasteners. That will prevent the cooler from dragging the CPU out of the socket if the paste has dried. It's a hard lesson and way too common. If you still have the pins you could always try reseating them if you're brave. Lots of YouTube videos on how to do it.

Another good tip, don't use Arctic Silver 5. I used it for a long time too but that's the problem, it's been surpassed because it's formulation is so old. It's conductive, it dries out, and it doesn't like to let go of the CPU. All bad traits for a paste that were accepted when it came out because it was the best. Now though it's actually in the bottom third of pastes in most testing. I'd recommend ordering some new formulation Noctua NT-H1 or Thermal Grizzly Cryonaut for your next mounting. Both are non electrically conductive, are rated for 3-5 years before drying out, and don't bind hard to the cooler surface. Both also outperform Arctic Silver 5 in heat conduction per area applied.

    Good info, thanks.
I don’t believe I lost any pins but I may have cracked one, I’m going to check into sending it to a 3rd party repair if it’s fairly inexpensive and then I can use the chip for another build (probably for a HTPC since my old intel system went to my sisters system) but it’s a new enough chip I would hate to waste it.

I’ll see what I can find locally or have shipped, I paid for expedited shipping from Newegg so I’d like to have the system back up and running either Friday or Saturday. I’m not in real populous area (even though I’m in the second largest city in the state our population is only around 70K) so electronic stores are limited to Best Buy and similar but I’ll see if I can source some on FB or one of the tech forums if I can’t have something shipped.

With the bad comes the good though, I found out that my dumb ass didn’t tighten the cooler when I originally installed it, the throw lever was extremely stiff and after playing with it a little bit I just assumed that I had installed it properly so that was the source of my high temps (40c, sometimes higher at idle) so I should see much cooler temps when I get the new chip installed and I can set my fan curve to be a little less aggressive.

Amazon should have one of those pastes in stock, but with Covid two day shipping may not be available.

I'll be honest I've never understood why the old school pressure level design was used by AMD at all on their Wraith coolers. Half of the cheaper ones come with spring screws and the higher ends ones should of come with screws too. Spring screws give a way more consistent mounting pressure over the latch design.

Unfortunately Covid has cramped my Amazon shopping, almost everything has a minimum of 2 week delay.

I would really prefer the screw type mounting but I wanted the larger cooler more, it would be nice if they offered it though.

Last time I built a PC was around 2007, but I had to sell it. I finally built a new one a couple weeks ago!! Been wanting to for a long time. It was super fun!

I'll try to remember off the top of my head!

    Amd 3700x
    Asus TUF x570 wireless board
    32gb 3600 gskill RAM
    H115i pro cooler
    WD black 1tb nvme storage
    EVGA 2070 super
    Corsair 750x modular PSU
    Fractal meshify c case

Corsair mouse & keyboard, and MSI 1440p 144hz monitor.

I spent probably too much on it, but I will have it for a long time. I do video & photo editting on it, I'm learning CAD, and of course I play games as well! The GPU is a bit loud when its running it's fans at 100%, but otherwise I'm very happy with it!

I picked up a couple WD Red drives and a 2u chassis. The plan is to swap my 10+ yr old desktop into it and raid the Reds and my OS still on SSD. Is there a good way to Raid0 the Reds now with Windows10 and later when I buy a new Ryzen platform swap OS ssd for Linux and move the raid to it?

    Hmm, this might be tight

    I like custom work

Upgraded some components the other day.

    Gtx 1080 -> 2080 Ti
Onboard audio -> EVGA Nu Audio

Also just want you to know that nobody can see the ugly front fans when the side panel is on :p

and yes I swapped the video card with the case on my bed and my feet on carpet, fight me.

LOL. It's still good stuff but not as good as people think. Memory Express has a couple of years supply of AS5 now because people stopped buying it and they never changed.

I want to fight you over the internal sound card. What is this, 1998? Use an external DAC and Amp like a normal person :p.

I was going to go that route but this fits my needs for now and is better than the onboard creative audio. I only hear the cap whine sometimes now. Mostly on main menus where I am getting over 250 fps. Before the onboard audio if my gpu smelled a game launching I could hear the angry pixies going through my headphones.

I use wireless with built in DAC so I wouldn't know :anonymous:. G933's.

I've never been into the audio scene very much. I've thought about going there but it's kind of like getting into custom keyboards. You can spend more on the peripherals than the PC and if you're not careful end up with a worse experience than cheap $20 Walmart headphones.
