Are you an administrative law lawyer by any chance? Just don’t see arbitrary and capricious thrown out there too often.

I saw an interesting article about how some people on submarines may not know about the pandemic if they're at sea, and I guess they'll find out when they come ashore. One of the first things I thought is if any of them invest, that will be a tough first login.

At this point you can avoid individual stocks and just invest in etf basically. Vanguard it up.

It is not that crazy to buy a few good companies or a couple funds on a royal bummer day and then just go do something else for a good while.

I’d think you’d want to get right back in the sub and stay there for 3 months. Hope you come back on the other side of the mess

Keep watching it and keep taking profit on the short run-ups. Look at all recessions on a chart. There's always at least 5 dead cat bounces before true market bottom. Trade the bounces and don't be greedy. The last 10 years we've been treated to a market that a fool could make money in and many have. That's all changed with the current market environment. Play smart, play safe and take profits often.

Well, being down 10% as is, idk if it would bounce high enough for me to take a profit.

Then keep buying and when the market actually goes back up you’ll be in good shape.

FWIW, Robinhood implemented fractional shares for me this week and just today, automated dividend reinvesting.

I know everyone is pretty sour about their gaffs, but this is pretty cool. If nothing else, it'll let my kids play around with some investing.
Shoulda seen my boys face when I told him what one share of Amazon cost

I have to admit I’m a little worried for the cruise lines.

Edit: Boeing is down too, but I’m not so worried about them. They’re just being an unnecessary bitch.

Irrational short term changes in expectations drive market movements in the near term. Even slightly promising news can change the 'trajectory' that wall street estimates the economy will take. They then adjust prices to account for new information. I personally disagree with how volatile and reactive wall street and financial media are making markets these days. The rule of thumb I use in this scenario: in the short-term the stock market is a voting machine, over the long-term it's a weighing machine. As long as you're invested in companies you believe will be well poised to deliver over long periods of time, with strong leadership and solid competitive advantages then you'll be fine. Just use these periods of falling prices as a buying opportunity.

Agreed. Fundamentals will drive prices in the long term. As long as Walmart continues to be profitable, their share price will reflect that in 5, 10, 20 years. This short term volatility is not based on anything that anyone can make sense of. It's oversold one day, overbought the next. Traders, short sellers, etc. Buy quality when you have this great discount.
