Got one question for y'all. According to Bilsteinlifts.com where i bought this lift, the front coils provided 2 inches of lift, so it said "do not adjust springs higher than stock settings" and best explanation it gave was the steering is not meant to handle for than 2 inch left. Well i wanted it to be closer to level, so i put it on .65 inch, and steerings fine, etc. Will i be paying for this later on or should the front end truck handle just fine??

How’s your alignment? Control arms ? Personally I would let the coils do the lift. Members on here will help out. 5100’s are designed to work with stock oem coils. With aftermarket coils there will be different opinions on preload. I went 5100’s 4th setting 1.5” front and a wheelers aal 1.5” rear.

Has anyone ever used the Bilstein 5100 shocks on a 3rd gen trd sport crew cab?
Love the look JP4x4 how does it handle with the new setup over stock?

Agreed. Not a fan of lift via preloading springs.

And while level looks nice in many eyes, to me it says 'I don't understand why engineers put rake in vehicles'.

I want to say from what I have learned through this site is that you may want to get some aftermarket Upper control arms to help with alignment if you get to a certain point.

5100s are probably the most commonly used shocks on Tacomas you will find on this site. lots of good info on the suspension thread I have found.

From the little bit that I've gathered, if you lift too much without making a lot of other adjustments the increased angle on the CV joints can cause the boots to wear out quickly. My friend struggled with that for a while with his 2009 and eventually bought boots specifically designed for that to stop it from happening.

Just realized you’re 4x4. Check the front cv boots. The fins should not touch. If they do they may wear out prematurely.

Thank y’all. Learning a little bit every day appreciate the opinions. Going to check the front cv boots and make sure there’s no rubbing now as well as look into upper control arms.

Best options seem either setting it back to stock on the front shocks or getting aftermarket parts y’all talked about. Whichever is the better long term investment

Ride is very soft and lofty so far, but have not tested it off-road at all. Not really big into pushing my equipment but end up hitting mountain roads with lots of dirt/gravel ruts so will eventually learn more
