I have this flag. Need to find somewhere to put it when camping

 

...We'd covered 30 of the 80 miles on our westward journey when we hit what would turn out to be our sketchiest mud patch of the day. As we powered through it and finally out, I stopped the truck to take a look at the map before continuing on. And then, I looked back the way we'd come. And no, I hadn't been drinking.

i use it for my Pismo flag. always gets a good laugh and thumbs up at camp.

 

I know you got a couple answers already, but they both seemed to keep the second (house) battery completely separated from the main battery... which means you aren't using the alternator to charge it when the truck is running. That can be fine in some cases, but I like the ability to have my batteries isolated OR connected.

You do that with something called an ML-ACR (automatic charging relay, made by Blue Sea) that links the two batteries automatically when the alternator is providing power, and unlinks them automatically when power is being drawn from one battery, so that you don't drain your starting battery.

How would you guys handle this? If I push it forward it's going to go on the frontrunner and raise up 1/4" or so. I'm not worried about the level I'm worried about the truck flexing and breaking the tent. If I move the tent to the frontrunner (which would be a pain in the ass) it would still overhang over the cross bars in the rear. I also have fishing pole holders and solar mounted on the frontrunner so I'd have to get cross bars and re do that on the roof nest. Not trying to spend more money.

 

centering it over the cab is my suggestion...

the solar can be mounted on top of the tent or move back on whatever is left of the cap.

the poles will need to be moved to another spot

 

Holy crap thats a big tent. I think if you mount it hanging over something, you need to space it out so your frame can twist/flex. I know that the RoofNest has roof racks that can attach or you can make those, so you can attach the solar..

Yeah, I'm thinking it has to go on the frontrunner rack and it let hang over the cross bars on the the shell.

 

I just picked it up from NY. I had to get it home because I'm supposed to be working. I knew it wasn't going to fit, but it's home now so I can play with it.

 

Maybe remove the front bar on your cap. Im not sure if 1/4" is enough for bed flex. Id try for an inch or more

 

how do you like it so far? Im really itching to hit purchase on one.

 

It seems like it'll be great once I get it mounted somehow. I mean, it takes literally seconds for it to open and close. It's windy as hell out today too and still only took seconds. But, I've got to deal w/ this issue first.

 

What battery terminals are those?

I'd try to mount the solar and rod holders ontop of the tent and move it forward on cap. Is there anyway you can create a spacer for your cap racks to gain back that 1/4" for the tent to sit on? I'm not sure if that would effect the integrity of the hold the tent to the racks has or not but a possibility?

 

That's where I'm going with it now. I need longer track bolts though w/ the shim. I just e-mailed roofnest because I doubt home depot would have them and I don't really want to be in stores right now.

 

Dont blame you on that.. Cant wait to see what that beast of a tent looks like opened!
