Business is business, some one else with the capital can just buy up that duplex at a depressed price and manage it better.

The American dream is the reason people are up to their eyeballs in debt. No one forces anyone to take out a 50K new truck loan. No one forces people to carry credit card debt. People want to keep up with the Jones's so they choose to do those things. It's how it's always been and how it will always be.

For the record, that ain't me. I carry zero CC debt and have most of my 30 year mortgage paid off in 7 years. I also drive a used car and truck that are paid off.

The sad part is you and I who are responsible are the ones that get screwed by the "fixes' to these problems through bad debt forgiveness and inflation.

I won't argue with you there from a fundamental standpoint, but I think the heart of America is small business. Small businesses deserve a bailout before corporations in my opinion.

I was mostly stirring the pot. I agree but people also forget going scorched earth on corporations screws the heart of america as well.

IMO the .gov needs to start divesting to fund the shut down and not stick it to the taxpayers.

I'd say it's the rampant consumerism not the "American dream" -- which is more the concept of that anyone has the opportunity to achieve their own version of success and that upward mobility is available to everyone.

Sounds like *you* are more the example of the American Dream than the impatient-gotta-have-it-now debt-slaves you describe.

... but yeah - lots of folks don't know how (or choose not) to be fiscally conservative.

Which is why the SBA got 350 Billion to use from the last stimulus package. I don't often think the Govt handles things in the best way possible. In this case though, I think they are doing everything right. They're bailing out every compnay, large and small, and they are providing UI benefits that greatly exceed anything else in history. There's a lot of money being pumped in to keep the average Joe afloat during this tsunami.

As they should because they caused an involuntary shutdown of peoples way of life.

Not arguing the merits of that one way or another.

Everyone says fuck the bank, why? I'm part of that group of people in the banks that provides access to capital markets for institutional investors and municipalities. Why fuck the banks? The banks are the ones who are going to foot the bill for this entire fucking crisis. Who gets shorted a the end of all of this and eats their own shit? THE BANKS. SO THANK THE BANKS.

The big banks and central banks devaluing the currency daily. They should flip the bill for this as they created this entire credit mess, both now and in 08. The banks profit on each end of this, they get a massive influx of cash from the fed and lend it out at 100% profit. When they make malinvestment, sorry provide nessassry liquidity, the fed bails them out.

So no not thanking you for my soon to be here negative interest rates for the privelage to keep my money with you.

I’d never say screw anyone in all of this. I’d rather see unemployment be a priority, small businesses be a close second, then move onto corporations after that’s all taken care of. You’re right though, the banks will be the end of the domino line and take the hit in the end.

People and businesses need to take care of their finances so they can survive these times. Instead of assuming, rightfully so, that they’ll be bailed out.

Because a banking collapse would take this to a whole new level. I would put their priority low on the list, I agree with you about helping the individual first. I couldn’t imagine a banking collapse right now.

I mean it happens regardless about every ten years no matter what the cause is. The entire lead up in 18 and 19 every so often you’d head people say it was coming. And it was, if it wasn’t this it would have been something else. Maybe in a few months maybe next year. But we were due for a plummet after the drives of 18 and 19. It just happens to be now and in about 2030 there will be something else. Could be a flu. Could be a terror attack. Could be a war. Could be a bubble. Could be a coup. Could be anything, the market cycles and when it comes for a downward trend, it finds something to cling to.

this and 2008 are both strong downward trends though and I hope we don’t see a continued increase in amplitude if swings.
