    Hey All!

So I've been looking around for my first Tacoma and want to get myself into a 3rd gen Tacoma. I'm currently coming from a long line of owning Audi S4's and looking to get out of that world, finally!

My question to all of you is, I found a nice white 2016 Tacoma TRD Offroad, fully loaded with everything I would like in a Tacoma, for about 26k with 40k miles. With 2016 being the first year of the face lift and I'm sure other things, is there anything would make you all want to not get a 16' and just go with 17' and newer? Tried researching it, and I couldn't find too much and I'm new to owning a Toyota!

    Thanks!

    Welcome to TW!

You won't have a power rear window and the front radar thingy in a 2016/2017. Other than that, that's about it, really.

16 17 and some 18's are the same.
Check if that one has up to date ECU calibration

17 gets a powered rear sliding glass window, 18 gets you toyota safety sense, 20 gets you carplay and powerseats. up to you to decide if they're worth it.

have you driven (a very long test drive at all speeds while REALLY paying attention) it to make sure it doesnt vibrate, and to make sure you can deal with the overshifting transmission?

I have a 17 automatic and am glad I did not get the first year model when I was shopping. Like others have said, the switch for the rear window is very nice. Things to look for...

    1. find out if it if the third brake lights been replaced because they're known to leak. mine did and has been replaced by dealer
    2. check for any paint peel/flake. obviously they hood/bumper area will have it. in between my bed and cab had paint flaking on the bed. it was fixed through warranty.
    3. check for loose weather strips on top of the truck. fixed by dealer
    4. take the truck for a good long drive to see if you like the way the transmission works. it feels sluggish to me at 40mph and up. i bought ovtune a couple weeks ago and it definitely helps

that's all i can think of now

Thanks all! I haven't gotten to take this one on a test drive yet, I have gotten to take a few 17's out for a test drive, just not this 16 yet and wanted to know things to look for or things i might be missing out with a 17 and newer like you all have been mentioning.

Please keep in mind that this is a mid-size pick up and nothing else.

Are you looking at an access cab or 4 door? The access cabs don’t have the leaky third brake light issue. 16’s have a different key for the tailgate lock or something like that.

16s get a bad rap because they rocked everyone’s world and no one was ready. So many changes from the previous gen, and a few missteps by Toyota that they took care of at the time. Not a lot of differences between the years for reliability or drivability. They all either make you smile or frown, so test drive.
