Yes. For me if I am going to invest I am going to want good parts but at some point I just don’t have enough desk room for all this stuff. As evident by me installing my gpu on my freakin bed lol. I will say I can crank the amp on the soundcard way up and it still doesn’t distort even with my mediocre “gaming” sennheiser headphones. For now this will have to do lol.

How is the bass response on those headphones?

Excellent. The lows are solid, no rasp, and the highs still come through well when they're pounding. In most reviews the G933's were the top end wireless gaming headphones when I bought them. Even the surround works well, which sounds like garbage on most gaming headphones. Logitech dropped a new headset last year that I'd like to listen to.

Interesting I will have to look into these. I have never cared for surround sound in headphones but it’s possible all the ones I have tried have done it wrong. I usually game with music on though and surround usually messes with the music which I don’t care for.

What’s all this headphones and external DAC stuff? Doesn’t everybody just use the speakers built into their 60hz monitors?

I guess if I’m fancy I could probably get my Bluetooth earbuds to connect and use those :notsure:

I don't game multiplayer (unless it's LAN) and photo editing/video editing really doesn't "need" quality audio, especially when I'm not using the video for anything other than fun.
I have a soundbar in the living room for listening to music and watching movies.

Ok I didn’t know if you were joking or not but for your uses it makes sense.

sometimes I am too lazy to put my headphones on so I use my monitor’s speakers for things like yt videos. The sound quality is worse than my phone I think but it gets the job done when needed.

I'm on a budget, one of these day's I'll get a high refresh rate panel with accurate colors and then maybe after that I'll get some sort of decent quality audio setup.
I'm running 3 screens, 2 are 1080 and one is 720P but I'm content with what I have because I've never been spoiled by nice gear. Hell, my Ryzen 5 and RX580 are phenomenal compared to my old I-5 3450 and 1050 TI.

I was running the rogswift ips gsync 144hz 2560x1440p and I loved it. Sadly a few months out of warranty a whole row of pixels are starting to act up. I bought a cheap 1440p TN 144 hz freesync on Amazon. Only $250 and it works really good. The colors are a bit flat but I was impressed for a tn panel.
At some point it becomes a rabbit hole that just keeps getting deeper and deeper. I’m pretty deep myself but there are others that make my setup look like a fischer price set

That’s unfortunate about the ROGSWIFT, my setup looks fisher price compared to yours I’m sure, the only thing I only bought for this use was the monitor stand everything else was just hand me down or re-purposing from other uses.

I just got paid for some side work that I did while I was on paid leave from work so I may end up shopping for a new (or used) panel.
My dad has an inexpensive 1440P curved panel and it looks good compared to my monitor (my main monitor is an old TC monitor but it runs 1080, 2nd monitor is a Vizio TV that only runs 720, and my last screen is a 40 something inch 1080P Sony TV) for brightness and contrast but the color depth isn’t very good.

I think I’ll be looking in the 28-30” category and VESA compatible, and probably sticking to the 75-100hz refresh range because my GPU will be able to utilize it and hopefully the slower refresh rate will put more money into the color accuracy vs a 144hz of the same price.
Also, curved would be a nice feature due to the layout of my desk.
If you guys have any recommendations for the ~250$ range I’d be happy to hear them, I’m going to start researching and maybe mark a few to notify me if they happen to go on sale.

Yep. So basically with mine if there is a lot of black and white pixels in a picture the whole row of pixels go blue or red. Other than that I never had a single issue with it. Either way unacceptable for a $900 monitor to fail just barely over 3 years. I won’t be buying another asus product for this and other reasons over the years. Kind of the straw that broke the camel’s back for me.

Yikes, that sucks. Asus quality control has hit the shitter on a lot of their stuff, I refuse to use their PC components unless I have no other options. I feel both MSi and AsRock make a better product. I have a XG32VQ I bought less than 2 years ago that I hope holds up. I also love my Zepherus G502A AMD Ryzen laptop.

You guys think I could play Forza Horizon 4 if I update my 10 year old PC with a newish GPU? Don’t need anything too crazy, monitor is just 1080p, I do like to run ultra settings though. My 2 main games years ago before I stopped was War Thunder and Planetside 2. If it’s a waste of time then I’ll just get an Xbox.

i5 2500k (I got one of the lame ones that didn’t OC well)
    SLI GTX 480
    8 GB Ram
2 Samsung SSD in RAID for boot drives
4 cheap Kingston SSD for storage

Possibly, your CPU is right on par with the recommended chip.
    https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-2500K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-3820/619vsm739

You could find a used recommended GPU or an equivalent from the next generation and it would likely be playable, I’m not sure if you could play on ultra settings though.

Just get an Xbox if you're looking to play one game cheap. That being said the new Xbox is coming at the end of the year so you might want to wait or just do a cheap new PC build. A Ryzen 3600, board, ram, 1660 Super, and SSD can be had for under 750 f strategically purchased.

Are you upgrading the GPUs? If not your better off with the Xbox or new PC. The 580->680 was a massive jump, a pair of 480s will struggle to run Forza on low.

The 2500k can still do okay, but anything past a GTX 1060 will end up bottlenecked.

Thats why PC gaming is an arms race, processors get stronger every generation (some more than others) and developers create new games to push the limits of current tech for more graphical pleasure (that sounds dirty, maybe graphical intensity?) and the cycle repeats for the latest AAA games hence why GPU (I would venture to say that CPU upgrades are lumped in as well) upgrades happen every 3-4 years for casual and slightly more intense than casual gamers.
