Hi guys! Just joined the forum, as I am officially throwing my hands up on finding the root cause of my interior leak. I have searched all over (both the truck and ideas from this forum, etc.) and haven't found the cause! I did find something interesting that I am wondering if might be a clue and if you all could recognize where the piece may have come from though...

But first a little background. My poor 2007 Tacoma sport access cab has reached semi-retirement now that I have started a new job a few years ago where I have a company car for running field service out of... so it does do a lot of sitting these days. And it has been awfully wet in Kentucky this winter! Anyhow, it seems like the interior started getting a little rough smelling this time last year as well, but not quite to the level of mildew I have noticed this year. It's gotten to where the drivers side floor board also stays pretty damp/wet after a lot of rain. I have removed a lot of the interior paneling and sat for quite some time with hoses running and also in down pours and can't find anything. Doesn't seem to be wet at all on passenger side, just drivers floor board side. Doesn't appear to be coming from up under the dash that I can tell. Original windshield. Doesn't seem to be coming from 3rd brake light - although I have gone ahead and sealed around it with silicone. Door weatherstripping seems to be in really pretty good shape.
I have wondered about the cowl area... and have removed the cowl cover and cleaned it out. Looked all over to see if I could see somewhere that it might be clogged and not allowing to drain or something, but don't see anything specifically that could be causing an issue. I have poured buckets of water in it and it gushes out down the sides behind the front wheels as I assume it should.
However, I was really trying to blow the sides out where you can see back in there real good with air as there was some debris like pine needles, etc back in there, and I came across a rubber 'grommet' type looking piece that blew up from somewhere. It was stuck back in the hole on the drivers side after I got done blowing out with air. It looks like it could be some kind of grommet, yet it has a slot in it like something maybe it slides onto something as well... i didn't know if anyone might recognize where it came from and/or if it might be a clue as to what might be causing the leak! I hope someone can help, I have done pulled my hair out!! Thanks in advance, Matt.

    No idea.

Cool area seems a likely water intrusion spot for the front.

I had the same thing happen about a year ago, but with my passenger side. Turns out there was a drain line (possibly A/C) that was clogged with debris from over 12 years of daily driving. After it was cleaned out, it never happened again.

Sure its the original windshield? Area where there are black drips looks suspicious. Don’t think that is factory.

Close all windows and doors, run heater fan on full fresh air not recirculate, and spray around widows especially windshield with soapy water. Bubbles will appear where there are air/water leaks.

That’s good info, I will definitely pressurize and test! I hadn’t heard/thought of that. Saw it in the link above too, and a great idea.
It should be the original front window - I have been the only owner. Unless of course something happened to it on the car lot or at Toyota or when shipping the truck I guess.

The back window has been replaced though. I actually started with checking that out first. Removed all of the interior plastic around it and did find a very slight leak around the bottom of it, but pretty sure there’s no way this amount of water is coming from that. I did take it back to Safelite who replaced it about 7 years ago and they were not helpful at all. Told me they couldn’t do anything for it. I will not take another vehicle back to them again, they were very rude about it as well. Spent the first Saturday taking truck across town and thought someone could at least step outside and take a look at the terrible looking job the seal even was since I already had interior pulled out but they wouldn’t even walk from out behind the desk to do that and I had to make an appointment for the next Saturday. Had to wait again at least 30 minutes for someone to come look at for 2 minutes to say they won’t do anything.

Had an 07 access cab with same issue. Could not find the leak. Took off door strips and lifted up caroet as far as i could. I tried running hose for long ammounts of time up front, on roof, all over back window. It ended up being my back window. It would take along time but would slowly leak from the back and move to the front along the wiring. It would take a long time but eventually the drivers floor would be soaked. I took tape along the edge of the weather stripping along rear window, and then lifted that stripping up i used a caulking gun. It worked. Never leaked again. I cant remember off the top of my head what sealant i used. I beleive my window was replaced by previous owner. Good luck with finding yr leak. Very annoying prob to have.

    Thanks!!
That does make me wonder a little bit more about my back window then hearing your story!! Appreciate it!!
Has anyone ever had an “accidental” window broken to get one replaced by insurance for a leak? Can window replacements cause insurance to go up like a wreck will?
Not happy at all with the help from Safelite, I know I won’t be letting them do it again though!

ever figure it out? Using a hose on the roof i can see water is accumulating on floor where my pointer finger is, and its coming from ? where my pinky finger is. that bottom of the back carpet on the fire wall is wet. Inside the engine bay i can see the water coming out of the pass through grommet with the wires coming through the fire wall.....
