Removing Dash Plugs on 09 Tacoma

Hey Guys-
Does anyone have a good method to remove the plugs in the dashboard where switches would go? I want to run a wire for my scanguage out the middle hole but cannot get it out and i do not want to tear up the dash, any suggestions?

 

Reach in behind it and pop it out if you have room and if you don't use a small putty knife so that you have a wider flat edge that won't damage your dash. You might have to use a little pressure but they pop right out.

 

I am almost certain they have tabs on the top and bottom so don't pry from the sides.

 

Thanks for the quick response Jay. I could not pop them out from the back, a putty knife was too thick, so I bent the end of a hose clamp at 90 degrees slipped it in, and pulled it right out. Here are a few pictures of my "tool".

Not sure I understand, the black thing that I took out are just plastic plugs and do not light up (or do anything but fill a hole for that matter), the ScanguageII lights up in 62 different colors that you can choose.

Did you glue the scangauge on to the plug?

 

Just used the supplied velcro on the 2 plugs that were left, I ran the wire through the middle plug that I removed. It is surprisingly well attached and can be undone if I decide to remove/move it.

Sorry for the confuse, my question is dose the TRSD switch light up? Mind dose not light up since day one.

 

I don't think so, I have not noticed but I have only had my truck for 2 weeks, I will check it out tonight

 

I had mine mounted there for a while...couldn't see it around the steering wheel very well...

 

So, where did you move it to?

 

I was wrong, noticed tonight they do light up, who knew..........

 

For now, I have it velcroed to the top of the steering column. But, in order to avoid blocking important warning lights (like the oil warning light), I have to lower the steering column more than I really like. So, eventually I plan on getting a Blendmount & mounting it over the rearview mirror.
