What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Mood: Old leaf springs.

 

I was looking at the general spring oe replacement. Most lift I would want is about an inch, so maybe an aal. I need to research it.

 

I tossed mine over a year ago.

 

The other reason i was under here... trying to get an idea of frame integrity. Found a cheap ultrasonic thickness gauge on the Amazon. Not incredible, but good enough to give me an idea of what the typical bad spots are like. Seems like I'm in decent shape so far, need to do some more.

Edit:. So far, 3mm thickest in the pic below, 2.7mm on the bottom of the frame where it curves up in front of the leaf springs. So not perfect, but also not about to collapse at the mall.

 

Okay folks, I need to defeat the upstream oxygen sensor heater circuit, OX1 in the wiring manual. The resistance range are as follows:



Am I correct in assuming a 20 Ohm, 1 Watt resistor is capable of simulating the heater circuit, as 20 Ohms is in the middle of the minimum and maximum ranges? Or maybe a 20 Ohm, 5 Watt resistor is more appropriate.

I would think something in the 23-32 range if 800c is the temperature it's targeting.

Any idea how much current that heater circuit pulls?

 

Just trying to help, not give GOOD advice. I am weak only electrical knowledge.

Even doing the math manually, I still see: Watts=(V*V)/Ohms Watts=(12*12)/20=144/20=7.2watts. I'd get a 10 watt. Probably only $5-8.00 anyway, if you go too big, you can downsize. Bad to go the other way. Might work at first, then overheat.

Let me know if you figure out otherwise. I rarely mess with electronics. I might learn something new!

 

not sure where you are located but im about to get the heavy duty dakars and will be selling my stock leaf springs + headstrong AAL if you're interested. Stock leaf springs still have plenty of life in them and the AAL has about 5k miles on it. The overload spring was removed too so you woudn't get too much lift.

 

Hmm. I think shipping is going to make that pretty tough. General Spring is actually local to me, which makes them super attractive.

 

What's this for? Mine never had one when I got it from the PO, so maybe they already removed it.

 

I think they put them elsewhere after 99? Not positive on that, but it’s just an accumulation tank for the vacuum actuated 4 wheel drive.

 

Maybe after that was the electronic actuator?

 

I have a 2000 and it has it. I have thought about relocating it. Gets covered with mud and ice all the time. Not a great spot for it. Thinking somewhere in the engine bay would be better.

 

Put my Gear Tech Customs PROTEC splash guards on. The stock ones were a little jacked up from when I put the lift on these are much better quality:

 

I have these as well and really like them. Only complaint is the piece that attaches to the shock tower ended up tearing on both sides. Still much better than stock.

 

They look better than the cheap Yota Liner brand I purchased.

 

These are pretty thick, I would’ve expected them to yank the plastic clips out before tearing, I’ll keep an eye on that.

They’re definitely thicker than stock.

 

overloaded the taco with my front and back yard's crab grass. riding looowww but took it like a CHAMP. I have no idea how much weight it was but def more than 700lbs which until today was the most I have ever put in the back.

 

Thank you, that’s very helpful. I didn’t know I could use Ohm’s Law without the missing variable I, or current. I’ve got a 1 watt and 5 watt 20 ohm resistor on order, I’ll see if I can get a 10 watt.
