So what you’re saying is, I can dump 6K into carnival cruises at $8 a share right now, and sell when they get back up to $60? So that turns into about 40K

Good point too. At least if it's in the IRA you aren't tempted to buy a boat or something stupid.

Break out another thousand! (BOAT). The idea pops into my head time to time. Not yet though, especially not without the truck paid off.

It better be a really big boat with social distancing taken into account.

I've done the math. It's way cheaper to rent a boat. I take myself fishing in the Keys every other year. to rent a boat for 3 days is only 3 boat payments... and I don't have to store it when I'm not using it.

    Assuming CCL doesn't crater.

I don't think they will, but you don't know.

I'd suggest VTI for now and then do your research.

I'm really laughing at my responses, right now.

I'm telling you not to buy a boat, yet every one of my posts shows my boat.

Just to be clear, I built that boat for much, much less than it can be bought.

I have an irrational fear of S&P 500 index funds. I will probably be outperformed by them, but I can live with that. My fear stems from the fact that the S&P was the same price in 2000 as it was in 2013. That's basically a lost decade (lost 13 years actually). I prefer dividend growth stocks, so that at least if that happens, you get to reinvest and end up with decent returns through compounding.

If you are able to pull that off, yes you should do that. You'll be the king of this thread.

About the length of a piece of string.

Edit: depends on longterm vs short term, as well as your income level. Both LT capital gains rate and ST marginal income tax rate are income based.

Tarpon are fun but Bones are on another level. Deep Water Cay is high on my list of wants.

What’s your thoughts on NCLH? They have better operating margin in a good market, but they didn’t apply for any form of credit to get through this. Idk if that is good news or bad news. As a matter of fact we haven’t heard anything from them at all and idk if that is good or bad either.

I think NCLH is pretty solid - but honestly I've not done a lot of research on either.

I do know that CCL is a bunch more than just the Carnival brand. They also own HAL and Princess - as well as Cunard and others.

If I had to choose between them today I'd choose NCLH - I think they have less exposure at the luxury end of the market which is perhaps more likely to slump in the near term.

While I expect both to survive just fine - albeit bruised - I wouldn't put anything in either you can't afford to leave there for a year or two or five.

How do you keep track of all your gains? This year I’m going to have a lot of short term and long term gains
