I don't have a close up at the moment. You can see the little black steel piece in the last photo I posted. It's mounted flush to the front of the top panel and I had to chisel out a slot for the "bolt" to sit in to latch behind the steel piece.

 

I like that material you used. I covered mine w anti fatigue mat. Its nice on my old knees but I don't think it will hold up well.

 

Holds up decent.
I have my work benches covered in it for going on 3 yrs now at work.

crutchfield actually has nice springback handles that are anti-rattle... would work great for the drawers

 

Cog, I'm sorry for the late reply, I haven't been logged-on in a while. But yes, I just cut the corners with a jig saw to fit flush against the bed. If I remember right I left a 1/4 inch gap off of my measurements to account for the carpet, it worked out great. The right-angle brackets came from Menard's.

I live out in Bend, OR now and have been using my truck A LOT for a lot of different things. I'm very happy with what I have, easy to change it up for almost any purpose.

 

I LOVE THIS THREAD! It's been a source of inspiration in my lil build. 5' slide drawer on carpet, even when loaded w stove and a couple tools it's not too hard to move. Pop up panels for pockets. I opted for roughly 2/3 width, but may end up reworking it some to make a drop in section for extra width when camping w the gf.

Made from 1/2 cdx from a job site and about $10 in screws, w a circular saw and jigsaw for cuts. Quick built, w weight in mind bc this truck is slow enough as is!

 

Is there an advantage to a platform? I just go to Lowe’s and buy some of those soft foam 2sq/ft squares, link them together, cut them to the shape of my bed and put a thermarest on it. It insulated from the cold bed, and I have room to sit up and move around. If it’s going to be really cold I’ll double up and put two layers of foam. I’m also an “almost” ultralight hiker, so I’m pretty minimalist anyway, but so far it’s worked fantastic. And it’s comfy too.

 

The advantage of a platform is all the storage underneath the platform for gear

 

There's also room for two people on a platform. I wouldn't want to try having two people sleep between the wheel wells.

For me it’s for keeping gear out of sight and locked. Someone pried open my topper and stole some offroad gear of mine. With cabinets it's virtually impossible without a saw cause you have to open the tailgate to access the drawers.

I’m also planning on putting a stove built into the drawers so one of the drawers will serve as a kitchen counter.

For those of you with cabinets inside the sleeping platform- how much less tall are you making the cabinet drawers? I have seen different numbers everywhere, curious if someone has found a good balance between maximizing space and smooth pulls of the drawers.

 

My drawers are within 1/8-1/16" of the platform. I possibly should have given a tiny bit more room....
