These threads are surprising to me. My truck has 700 miles on it, I’m coming from a GD corolla and I’m loving the gas mileage. Short trips, in town driving, let it defrost for 10 minutes in the am, lots of stop signs, and I’m still struggling to get less than 20 mpg...

It’s like high school. You have to really TRY to fail a class. Try harder and maybe you’ll get below 20. (I can’t manage to do it either.)

Mine is still not broken in yet, but the dash is reporting between 15.5 and 16.5MPG for my daily loop to work and back depending on how lucky I get with stop lights. The trip is pretty short, pretty dang flat, 100% city (top speed of 35-40 MPH for the trip,) and definitely not driven hard.

Just do the speed limit. Let everyone else pass. They are technically breaking the law and approaching reckless driving speeds.

One tank fill up I got like 15. But most others I’m getting between 18 and 20 overall in the cooler weather, mostly city I have a short 12 minute commute to work. But I don’t jackrabbit at the lights, I’m usually the one being passed.

v6 cc sb off road 2020 I have about 4K miles on it now.

First tank on my 2020 was 13.8 MPG. Mixed highway & city. Not impressed

I have 285s 3 in lift and a bed rack. Getting about avg mid to high16-17 mpg but I’ve seen as low as 14 on 55 miles to work. I try to drive around 75, but to keep up with traffic I see 85-90 some times

Yeah you're right and I'm working on that. I towed an XJ to RI with my previous truck and became pretty comfortable and learned to enjoy the slow lane. I'm working on translating that discipline to my daily drive but it's taking a while. That's actually why I drive back roads as much as I do now, it's a 2-lane, lower speeds and for my commute it's actually a more precise time pattern. I plan on a 7 minute longer drive and it's virtually always that with few exceptions and plenty of alternatives. If things go south on 85, those 7 minutes saved turn into 30 minutes late with one bonehead driver. And the 16mpg thing.

These are the reasons I bought the vehicle I did and didn't keep the silverado and spend 38k on any number of fast cars that would amuse me; at 35 today, I'm still not mature enough.

(Just kidding, a partial refueling at the top of a long grade does not count.)

I get about 14-16 mpg avg. hwy driving less than 65mph with 10ply KO’s, steel skids, sliders, tall shell and racks.

And the main problem is that ever since I joined TW, my mileage went down.

I hear ya bud. I had a '19 Tacoma OffRoad long bed 4x4. I'm a real estate appraiser and drive my truck all the time...both interstate and town driving. It NEVER got the advertised 18mpg, which is the bottom estimate on the window sticker. I was always in that 14-16 range on every tank of fuel I ever put in it. I needed more room and almost went back to an F150 with that 2.7 Ecoboost. GREAT engine for power and the 10speed mates flawlessly to it. But the '18 I had was sorta like the Tacoma. It didn't average the 19-24 that was on the window sticker. Would do 19-21 on the highway at 55-60. But if you drive it 75 or so on the interstate it stayed in the 16-17 range. SO, this time I bought a Tundra Crewmax 4x4 with the 5.7. In the 1000 miles put on it so far, it is getting exactly what the window sticker says...14 in town and about 17 on the highway. And the 17 doesn't seem to care about 75-80...still averages about 17. I can live with that, especially with the major upgrade in interior space. These manufacturers should ALL have to give some sort of pay back to folks over them over-stating what their window mpg sticker says. I guess maybe in a perfect controlled environment their trucks may get close to what they state, but no where near it in the real world. And for those in this post that have said they get mid 20s and up all the time in their Tacomas??? I call bullshit! ;)

That is the real mileage for how you drive.
Mine is lifted, bigger tires, winch and brush guard, and hard bed cover.
Mine gets the following on intestate
    20+ highway at 65 mph
    16 highway at 70
    14 highway at 75
    11.5 highway at 80
I’m at 70,000 miles, and the 3” lift and 285/75/16 Toyo C/T cost me about 2 mpg across the board.
