It is a really solid pour. Especially for sub $50. Glad I finally caved!

    Pretty much :D

    @Kanyon71 ! Any leftovers ...

Not surprising I'm going back to this bottle... Starting to mellow out on the chocolate upfront and is more overpowered by the oak now.

Put the smallest sliver piece of ice in it and swirled to melt.

Knocked the oak down just a touch but not much else. Still really good.

Also... Going North of North. Logo pour... It's Friday. I don't work tomorrow finally. Yup. Logo pour...

And a backdrop I've been neglecting

Logo pour is an official term now.. I'll be surprised if there isn't another one created by the end of the night

With a side of bacon ...

Not disappointed. Not that I thought I would be... But anyone surprised bacon pairs well with whiskey?!

Bacon pour... Albeit the same pour as the logo pour...

    This is getting confusing

Bacon and waffles was for dinner so this is a great dessert! :D

Mix a little sriracha and brown sugar and put that on your bacon while it's cooking ... And yes... Bacon goes well with drinks!

Friend told me that Jefferson's Reserve is basically Pappy 10 yr. Very often he's full of shit, so I'm skeptical of anything he says. I've never had any Pappy, so I have nothing to go by, maybe some of you can chime in.
Well I said f it, and wanted to try some new stuff anyway, so that's WTF I'm drinking tonight.

It's good. Doesn't have the high proof kick that I like, nor the rye spice. It's really smooth. Like I said, I prefer high proof and spicy, probably because I like a cube of ice in it.
This stuff though is tame, and very smooth. Too smooth. I actually prefer it neat.

Very good though. I can't tell you leather this, oak that, dried cherry here, vanilla there, just that I'm enjoying it. It's good lol. I feel like I could kill half the bottle if I'm not careful.

That’s always the best, when it’s that good you could just keep sipping on it. Makes me want to search for it to give it a try

Few: An excellent rye, exceptional considering the <$50 price. I'll be buying several more bottles asap.

Springbrook: This is an odd-ball. Nearly no nose including alk, and very mild flavors. Maybe this will make for a nice hot summer afternoon dram, similar to someone enjoying a wheat beer over an intense stout?

You got some great suggestions already, so not much more for me to contribute, but I'll throw High West Campfire out there as an alternative to the scotches mentioned. It includes a Single Malt in the blend, but is more like a really smokey, high rye bourbon, to me. Deep, complex, and super rich. I love the stuff.

I thought the batches got better as the year progressed, with a huge leap from 1 to 2. I really liked 02 and 03, and thought 04 was better still.

I don't think it compares to the Van Winkle profile, personally. I'm not saying that based on the quality of the pour, but the overall flavor profile. Jefferson's uses rye as the third grain whereas the Van Winkles use wheat. That alone will put them in slightly different categories.

They make some really good and interesting stuff, though. Lots of fans for a reason!
