Thank you and @Rick_Taco for your advice! Today I finally was impatient being on day 6 of PB Blaster and decided to get a breaker bar to one of’em to see how it’s looking so far. Got one open with a little effort, replaced it, then got curious on another, then another and so forth. So yeah I replaced all 6 and added the D-Rings to 4(closest to cab and middle). The worst 1 out of the 6 was the middle driver’s side. Anyways here are some pics:

Here they were in proper orientation with me being at the tailgate:

McGeorge Toyota Parts online. They have the best prices, even reasonably to Hawaii. Most times they beat the prices at the dealership here lol

6 hours of wash/clay bar/wax and the 12 year old paint looks alright. Also went full stormtrooper with satin black bedside decals and satin black wrapped WSU licenseplate frame.

I also saw an owl in my backyard which I've never seen in the 22 years I've been alive in my area.

I bought my fifth SCS wheel a year after the rest so my fake bead lock ring was matte black instead of gloss like the others. My OCD ass couldn’t put the odd one out in rotation til it matched. Well, one pandemic later and I finally found the time to do a quick few coats of gloss and it came out pretty good.

Decided since I'm likely done skiing for the season it was time to take the rocket box off.

I had my wife help get the RTT on the rack. Opened it up to air it out and reinstall the rack.

Hoping to get some time to install the bed stiffeners this week then I want to work on a slide for the fridge.

Why will it break? Is there too much force being applied with the rod in the stock orientation?
It doesn't take any more force to open the new handle as it did the old one.
Like I said, it does rub right where the lock cylinder is but only slightly. I could also see if a passenger side rod (modded) will work.
    I'll look into it.

I looked through my price list and the tailgate rod comes with the latch. They are about $40 each. Good thing I have a spare tailgate laying around.
