This SOB keeps eating transmissions for breakfast. its offically down until my uncle can find a 6 speed manual to swap in it.

its a 97 with the 7.3 turbo diesel.

 

Damn, he's killing the automatics? I thought they were reasonably robust unless it's built , tuned, and stock transmission

 

these autos are notorious for going bad. its got a banks chip from the early 2000s. nothing ridiculous. but its constantly towing

its on its 4th trans (the original was rebuilt twice... then this new used one that had 30k on it has lasted the longest...)

the later 7.3 in the gen after this one had a factory 6 speed. thats what he is hunting down.

@mechanicjon you ever get that rear disc setup done? im probably going to order mine in the next week or so for the taco.. just wondering if the cables were ever determined how long they needed to be.

 

hmmm got to thinking.. couldnt i just get sequoia backing plates and press them onto the taco axle and get just the cables from SOS performance?


(holy shit my cost on sequoia backing plates is 350 EACH!)

 

ok apon further inspection for whatever reason toyota made the bolt patern for the rear axles different from the taco/tundras. assholes...

I bet that one had a 232 six like the one in this picture. It would have been easy to pull a spark plug. My dad had 1960 model F-100 that looked like that. I remember he would put me up in the engine compartment to show me how to work on it when I was around 5 years old. That was in the days when you had room to crawl up in engine compartment.
