I'm not an expert either. I believe @tonered has it right, the secondary/layshaft turns at it's maximum rpm in 6th gear transmitting the most noise. Which was what I was trying to get at.

@RX1cobra you are correct too, you can drive 60 MPH in 6th gear and turn 2500 rpm or in 3rd gear and turn 4500 rpm (just an example); the output shaft should be the same speed on the trans in either gear. However, who would do that? The engine noise would totally drown out the sound of the transmission at that point.:D

Would anyone have a video? I'm interested but seeing how some are saying it's really loud, it's giving me second thoughts.

    Tempting.... :bananadance:

I'm trying to find install guides, either from the manufacturers of these shifters or on YouTube. Does anyone know where I can find some information?

I saw one video of the URD. Saw that they disconnected the transmission fluid line, had to cut part of the frame to remove a bolt, and had to open/reseal the shifter. I felt pretty discouraged after seeing how much trouble the installer went through. Also, lurking around this forum, I found a few others discouraged from URD based on these steps. Does the core eliminate from having to do any of that? Is it as simple as disconnecting the trans. fluid line, and connecting to the new piece and bolting it all back in? If I got any of this wrong, my apologies, I've owned my Tacoma for less than a month now... and told myself that I don't need to mod it..... I blame you all for this!:frusty:

Yes, please! That would be awesome!

The coreshifter replaces the entire sub assembly, so its a lot easier to get in and hour than the urd is.

id imagine I could install a coreshifter in under 45 minutes without trying too hard.

those front bolts are still a pain to get out, theyll be 50% of your time but nothing like the URD

@TacoFez There should be plenty of info in the first post on this thread.;)

Like @xxtavixx said the front bolts are the hardest part, but with a flex ratcheting box end wrench they are not too bad. If you have any questions ask away. It’s pretty straight forward.

So basically for the core shifter, you remove shifter knob, remove console trim, remove inner boot. Disconnect bent line, pull off old shifter base, put new shifter base on. Reconnect vent line, bolt down new shifter base reinstall boots and trim and you're done

 Basically. There is some minor pre-assembly on the Core assembly, but you got 99% of it. Its an easy install if you take some time.

Gosh the last thing I want is for it to be harder to get into reverse.... I'm not sure what it is but sometimes it feels like I have to pull with all my strength to get it over to the left...goes into gear fine, just not over that "hump"

Love the install. Not that the stock shifter is terrible. Yes, makes a little more noise. Some people use dynamat to lessen this. Yes, reverse takes a tad more effort, but is eases up with use.
Overall, a nice upgrade you wont see everywhere and doesn't break the bank. I recommend.

So i had an interesting thought for shits and giggles. Im sure if i put the chrome piece back into the boot and had an adapter for the oem knob i could make it look oem and i bet it'd fool the dummies at the dealership lol
