    holy rough start to a cook batman!

    Blew a fuse on the pooper... found the backups and replaced within 5 minutes. restarted pit and a few minutes later...

    @uhplifted ...

    Started to backburn on me!

    Purged all the pellets and scooped out of the fire pot. pic is post purging. caught it fast enough thankfully.

    Fired up the ranch kettle. dialing in now.

    Your pot was over full after the fuse incident. That causes a huge amount of smoke to push back up through the auger tube. Had it happen to me once. Shut it down and it’s all good.

    Most likely. From the time the fuse blew (the auger stopped) to re-fire wasn't long. but the flames were apparently enough to overcome the fans and work back into the feed tube. Still need a new igniter though if it keeps popping fuses. I already emailed customer service.

    Spritzed and rearranged racks. I also added more charcoal. I'm doing all I can to get to 200°F. Next time I'll run two snakes of charcoal for more even heat distribution. Good time to learn this pit. Lid still needs tweaked to seal better but it's chugging along nicely.

    Once it popped and you restarted everything it started pumping pellets into the pot as if it was a cold fire but problem is the pot was already pretty full with them. :)

    That was my initial thoughts as well. When I pulled the parts out to investigate, there was hardly any pellets in the pot. I figured it'd be full or full of ash if it burnt up this way and then backfed.

    Only thing I can really guess is the flames just got up near the feedtube and it just caught. right set of circumstances I guess.

    Initial response from P&S is to call tomorrow. They said the only burnback they have seen (rarely) is from dirty parts and lack of cleaning/care. This was a fresh fire after cleaning the pit out recently including the whole auger feed assembly. Maybe too clean :confused::D

    He got lucky. Not only would he not have WiFi, he'd now be a member of the "blew up a smoker" club.

    They are probably going to tell you that you need the anti burn back Addon which is $600. :)

    The elusive club!

    They said they need to talk and are asking for more pics of various parts and to call them to talk tomorrow. Guessing they want to see if it's in disrepair but I just cleaned this thing a week or two ago:rofl:

    Thinking about selling the Pit Boss we picked up at the end of the season (still in box) and maybe ordering a Rec Tec.

    This finishing sauce/glaze for the Sriracha rack... wow! I could do shots of this! Just went with a Tbps (ish) each and just heated for 10 secs to soften honey to combine. I'm looking forward to this!
