Would that $150 be for the entire bed, or just the interior part I need? Trying not to accumulate too much excess ;)

$150 just for the composite (plastic) part. I have to go and remove the bedsides from it. It's at my sisters house, the sooner it's gone the better.

File a lawsuit against the insurance company. The tend to pay more attention then.

Those blue books and black books mean nothing:

    2015 TRD Sport DCLB $24k: https://www.autofairford.com/exotic...a-Tacoma-062d14090a0d0cc771fb3745408eb5b0.htm
2014 TRD Sport DCLB with cap $24k: https://www.truecar.com/used-cars-for-sale/listing/3TMMU4FN7EM067750/
    2015 SR5 DCLB $23k: https://www.ebay.com/itm/293515264153
    2016 TRD Sport DCLB $26k: https://www.ebay.com/itm/184191803950

Unfortunately mods and accessories depreciate quickly. Hypothetical example: do a 3-year lease on a new Tacoma, roll a dealer-installed tonneau into the lease, the residual stays exactly the same, which means the tonneau depreciates to $0 after 3 years according to Toyota's accountants. Best thing to do in case of total loss is to remove whatever accessories you can.

Gotcha. One thing though. My truck is a 2015 and it has that 12V outlet back there. Also doesn't have those cubbies above the wheel-well so I'm not sure if it would fit?

The outlet will transfer right over. The bed originally had a bin but the outlet/small bin is the same size as a full bin.
The cubbies were removed in later years of the Tacoma. Some people miss them, some don't. I never used them and not sure what they are used for.

Kim, happy to see you are back. I thought, perhaps, I pissed you off or unintentionally chased you away. I know repairing a truck that an insurance company wants to total is not a battle everyone wants or should fight but it sure sounds like your insurance company is messing with the wrong woman. I only hope I didn't encourage you to jump into something you are sorry for.

You are right in that I am very pleased I got my Tacoma rebuilt on a new (to me) frame. I encouraged you because the damage to your truck and your reason for wanting to keep your 2015 mirrored the logic I used to decide to have mine repaired. I have not had a moment of trouble with my truck and it has been 3 years. I've now put more than 40K miles on my truck since I got it back. In 2016, when I was hit at 55 MPH while stopped at a light, and for a number of reasons, I did not want a Gen 3 Tacoma. I still plan to drive my Gen 2 for as long as it is practical which based on its like new condition may be one heck of a long time!

If I would have allowed my insurance company to total my truck I would not have been able to replace it without making up the difference between the payoff and cost of a new truck out of pocket. It was a risk I'm happy I took.

For what it is worth, the only thing I put back on my truck that was not a new Toyota OE part was the bed. Apparently there are a number of them available all the time. It came off a late model low mileage front end collision Tacoma. The only thing I didn't like about the used bed was it was scratched up and mine looked like new before being hit. The bodyshop said they could make it look like new and if I didn't like it they would replace it. They ended up applying a spray-on covercoat on the inside of the bed. It wears as well as the stock bed and I haven't had any problems. Still looks like new

I forgot to mention, there were two other things I put back on my truck when it was being rebuilt, an ICON Stage 2 kit and Dynamat Xtreme everywhere I could.

Haha, no, you didn't chase me away! Being a full-time PhD student can be pretty time consuming, in addition to all this insurance hassle! They sure as heck are messing with the wrong woman. I think they thought that because I was a student I didn't have the time to stick with this -- they guessed wrong! One thing they did guess right about was my limited capital to take them to court -- regrettably, we don't get paid much as students/TAs.

That's actually a really good idea. I hadn't thought of using a spray-in to change it's appearance. Thanks!:)

Oh believe me, I am committed now. Since we're all Tacoma enthusiasts, you can imagine how pissed I am at not being able to drive my truck for TWO MONTHS. I've been in a little zippy Toyota Venza and now am in a 2003 diesel Ford Excursion, lol. Literally opposite ends of the spectrum and I just want my truck back! :mudding:

Believe it or not, I have a local station and NBC interested. But the coronavirus completely put that on hold. They do still want to talk to me after this pandemic blows over, but who knows how long that will be. <shrug>

Too bad you aren't friends with some good fabricators.....

People might scoff at this, but looking at your crumple zone, makes me want to box my frame. :anonymous:

Lol, it's definitely surprising how susceptible these frames are to damage!

    Well, finally, an UPDATE:

My insurance company has finally agreed to pay for the repairs and has (supposedly) even issued a check! :amen::bananadance:

I won't feel totally in the clear until I have the check in hand, however ... :fingerscrossed:

I'll post photos after the repairs are completed. Can't wait to have my baby back!

So, the saga continues. In a weird twist of fate, the body shop my truck was at ( ) caught fire. The building is a total loss, and the business is devastated. Luckily, my truck was outside (just the cab on the frame) but the bed was inside and is now toast. Cap was next to the building and is also damaged. No idea as to a timeline on repairs now, but the frame is still scheduled to be delivered to a local Toyota dealer next month.

Anyone have any advice in these types of situations? I trust my body shop but just wondering what people's experiences are, and if this has ever happened to anyone, lol.

Completely awful situation for the auto body. Luckily no one was hurt, but they've lost everything.
