can't get my tail lights to sit super flush after removing them do i just need to screw down harder on them?? or is this gap gonna be okay?

 

This arrived today. Hopefully will cure the CEL I have. Gonna wait until it is not raining torrentially to give installation a go. Now need to look up a Timmah video or other instructions.

What a funky lug stud. I'm not seeing anything like this for Japanese vehicles so finding the right ones in Metric might not be so straightforward

 

Dorman 610-407.1 looks like it will fit

 

I sold them last month. They go quick.

 

This is toooo cool man. I've rebuilt a few engines but nothing ever to the degree of requiring such detailed perfection of measurements as this engine. This is the coolest rebuild I've seen.
And he has the same Milwaukee impact I like on his shelf in background
And Yota straight 6 is best engine ever, determined by science not my bias

 

The 2J is an interesting beast for sure. Is it bad that I am already considering major changes while I have mine apart?

Well I took off all timing and water pump related stuff. Then I took off the exhaust manifold and cats, I removed the throttle body and most ignition stuff. Now I'm in the process of making everything sparkly clean before I remove the valve covers (there are two on a 2J) so I can reseal them and change the cam seals (weird two piece seal holder).

@cruiserguy I took out the 470's steering rack this afternoon. That was an interesting job. I need to figure out how to get the new rack centered to reinstall the steering shaft on the right spline notch with the front knuckles off.

I guess I'm lucky, while I had the engine jacked up a couple of inches, one of the plastic heater hose Ts disintegrated. I bought a new set of OEM Ts and heater hoses. I also bought some metal Ts. I think I may go with metal.

Now that I have the rack and differential out of the way, I think I should replace the "hard to reach" oil cooler hoses and other hoses that are under the engine.

I won't be reinstalling the rack this weekend, I see there some some hose clips that do not come with the rack that I had to order. I need a long 17mm open end to reach the high pressure hose. It was a trick to use a gear wrench with a pipe extension.

Amazingly, the bushings were in decent shape after 235,000 miles. The inner tie rod ends were beyond shot. I may get sick when I look at them with the boots off.

 

I had to do metal Ts on my cruiser... Then I tried to figure out why I wasted my time doing that. Because this summer I'm tearing the dumb rear heater out entirely. It's very leak prone both internally and externally.
