I agree. I just picked a 2019 Offroad, with 25k on it. You can find them if you look around

17s because you dont get alot of the tss bull crap that screws up, added cost when replacing windshield. Only thing really lacking from 17 was the standard leather seats and the and adaptive cruise control. With ovtune, def the best

My 18 had a few TSS quirks at the beginning (it was on the recall for the radar moisture problem) but the last year and a half the truck has exceeded my expectations. It hauls fully loaded, pulls a 16' tandem axle trailer effortlessly and gets great gas mileage. Every inside creature comfort option works as advertised and when 4 wheel drive is needed, it's ready to deliver. I couldn't have asked for more.

It's the one that you are able to find that best meets your individual wants, needs and preferences. No need to make finding one more difficult than it has to be as Tacomas are risk-free as any vehicle and more so than most.

Just be sure to check the CarFax to insure you don't get someone else's lemon.

Didnt read the whole thread but, i would avoid the very early production 3rd gens. They seemed to have plaqued with more issues than the other ones. I know there are a lot of members here with 16s and they have been great to them, so there is that.

If you dont want TSS, meaning less sensors and less shit to go wrong, i would get 17.

Other than that, im pretty sure you wont be dissapointed with your taco, doesnt matter the year. My 18 is great, its been rock solid and i love it more everyday. Best vehicle ive owned hands down.

Good luck with your purchase man!

2002. Last year that the accelerator pedal was mechanically connected to the engine :stirthepot:

TBH, I like my '02 and I like my '15. They're both fun for different reasons. If I had to choose only one it would have to be the '15 DCSB because, kids. If no kids then it would be the '02 XtraCab.

The 2016's had numerous issues with engines, transmissions, vibrating hoods, and a bunch of other things that I can't remember. I guess most of the guys that used to bitch about them on this forum got rid of them like I did. I still see a lot of them for sale. Mine was an early production SR5 2WD DC built in November '15. By August '16 I hated it so much I couldn't stand to drive it any more and traded it. The biggest issue mine had was an intermittent engine hesitation/stall/shudder that wasn't throwing a code and couldn't be diagnosed, and of course never acted up when a tech was in it. Second worst issue was a transmission that was constantly upshifting/downshifting. I had available computer updates done, but they didn't help.

I now have an F150 for highway driving and a 2011 Prerunner for city use. Love the 2011. My son is still driving the 2005 I helped him buy in 2007. Only maintenance and u-joints needed on it in 13 years.

Somewhat still on topic - I thought I read on this forum a few years ago that there was one 2nd generation year that the 4.0L had higher horsepower than any other year. Anybody know about that?

If memory serves me 2005-2007 Tacoma's were rated at 245 HP and 2008-2015 were down to 236 HP but the early ones required Premium Fuel.
