Be prepared to generously tub the fender apron and firewall with 37's/38's.

 

I DEFINITELY want to use every inch of travel I can get out of the MCM LT kit running 4 wheel drive and fully being able to tuck it to bump is where it'll be at. One thing Robert Otwell (Otwell Welding and Fab) mentioned to me is how he cuts firewalls. He had a horrible story about tubbing his firewall many many years ago as a starting experience back in the day regarding sparks.

What he does is take a very sharp air chisel to cut the firewall. Once done and a piece is shaped and fitted, he rivets it (instead of welding) and puts the sealer over.

After hearing that, as long as I find the time I feel very up to the challenge doing it that way.

I'll let you guys know how much rub there is with the stated tire size once I get all this together.

 

Yea I would too. I'm with you on that one.

That's an interesting strategy on tubbing. I'd still be more inclined to just weld it up. More rigid that way and i'd have much more faith in it holding up than with rivets. Cutting it up with an air chisel sounds like a royal pita.
As long as you take your time and take the necessary precautions (wet rags on the inside and putting key components out of harms way & etc.), you shouldn't have to worry about burning your truck down.

 

How much projected travel are you hoping to get from the MCM kit bump to strap?

 

Not too sure yet. I'll have to let the cv axles do the talking to me.

By the way, I figured out how to separate my manual locking hub axle ends and stick them on to a Tundra shaft!

Well...from my understanding you are supposed to give her a real hot supper on the inner portion with a punch (like the opposite of how you'd set a bearing in casement). Knock it hard enough and get her past the two retaining clips which will probably break. I found a couple clips on Summit Racing from Trail Gear which I ordered. Not sure if they'll work but I'll let you all know on a part number if this works.

That would essentially mean I'd have a tundra with manual locking hubs with the front. RAD!

Here is my trade off- smaller manual hub spline shaft is more prone to breaking than the larger ADD shaft. This is not to be confused with breaking CV joints, which is what I believe most people have happen. If I break something, I can unlock it and drive home still with ease. But if in a worse situation, I can 3 wheel limp it back locked on he front diff and one hub locked worst case scenario if I am all alone and have no options.

Tubbing SUCKS!! Do it once and chop out way more than you think you will need, unlike me the first time around.

Yea it blows, but once you get in the groove with the welding it isnt TOO bad. I dropped to a smaller wire and life was much better. Also helped this isnt my DD, so when I got annoyed I went back inside and came back a few days later.

Just a heads up guys I'll be selling my current suspension setup soon-

Rear: Fox 2.0 extended shocks for factory location mounts, OME Dakar leaf pack with extra leaf, wheelers bump stops, axle with fresh bearings and seals.

Front: Total Chaos UCA, Stock LCA drilled out with poly bushings. Custom Frankensteined SAW 2.0 Coilovers. Insane stock width travel for 2WD only as I had cut these shock bodies and did a bunch of extra stuff to make them work insane! I have good condition Moog tie rod ends too.

Probably going to set the asking price right around $400. I installed them brand new in March 2018. I've definitely put them through a hot supper but they're in super solid good condition still. I'll know more of what condition the ball is in once I pull them off, but I am pretty confident its totally solid.
