    Crazy how it adds up.

I’m trying to use aluminum for anything non structural like solonoid mounts and what not. Skids and stuff have to be steel.

Unless he has a different bumper than the one i poked him about, that's why i asked about it. was debating if it's the direction i want to go with but i noticed it doesn't have front recovery points of any sort.

    In regards of the hitch mount in place of the winch location;
unless we figure out a way to make a hitch mounts work with 14 zipties since
    upload_2020-4-2_9-31-55.jpg
    "i'm back to stock"
Removed the SSO since i wanted to sand blast it/ strip the paint and rust off of it. i want to keep the SS, but after removing it, the weight difference is a hard fight between having it on and having it off.
maybe if i add in stiffer springs to the front, it'll let things feel better.

but other than that, that's why i inquired about Evgy's old bumper/ winch cradle system since i recalled it being a skeleton or something :cookiemonster:

    you're right there bud.
Currently what's on the truck is the sliders and skids - which keep the weight in the middle.
Was it a mistake to get the steel SSO? not really since now i know what the difference is between having it and not having it.

I’m thinking of replacing the stock skids on my OR. They’ll definitely be aluminum. Probably from Greenlane. More expensive, but worth it.

Thanks guys, but my vehicle is a 4 Runner with a cool feature called KDSS. I like that Greenlane designs skids specifically for KDSS. A lot of guys cut up their trd skid plates etc to make them work, but it’s best to buy them to fit. I’m guessing the stock skid plates fall into the lite steel category already, so 1/4 aluminum should beat that. Besides, they’re never going to get scratched, they’re only for keeping the gravel away from the mechanical components on dusty roads.

Greenlane has beautiful aluminum sliders, very functional and properly designed as well. Whoever designed them actually knows how sliders need to work. Tough too. Ok, maybe not the best for rock crawling, but only because steel slides better on rocks because it’s harder. Light.

only reason I like steel is because I am set up to repair it when it breaks. Aluminum is a bit harder to repair, and based on my youtube degree I think it looses its structural strength after multiple repairs. Again, all depends on how you are going to use it, but thats where my motivation with steel comes from.

If I was going to just do backroads I would go aluminum. Even a thick HDPE would be cool

Yeah, that looks beautiful, 680680! I did a similar style on my 4 Runner, but it ended up being from Victory 4x4 in Michigan. It was a tough decision, because I like to support Canadian industry as much as possible. It just turned out to be Victory because I was going to be over there nearby and could pick it up myself. The two bumpers are almost identical. What winch did you use? I used a Warn Evo Vr 10s, again the synthetic line keeps down weight and is safer. I went 10,000 just so I’d have a little more capacity to recover full sized trucks if someone was stranded. I’m sure 8,000 would have been fine for just the 4 Runner. I didn’t want to have to tell some poor guy in big Ram Hemi that I couldn’t give him a pull because my winch might not take it, haha.

I used a flip licence plate mount for the plate, which I left off for the photo. It mounts perfectly with the Factor 55 fairlead. Victory sells these as accessories if you decide thats how you want to go that way for the front plate. The only minor issue with a set up like this, is that it is so tucked away that it’s hard to see the line as it rewinds to make sure that it goes on straight and tensioned properly. It’s doable, but not easy.
I have a space for a 20” light bar, which I doubt I will use as the gravel roads in Canada don’t treat expensive aux lights kindly. Just like they don’t treat windshields kindly either, haha.

How could it, Windigo? Even if we all decided not to do the right thing and stay home, the fines are pretty big if the OPP sees a group up there. Plan for 2021. That’s my reading of the current situation.

Everybody stay safe. Although my age group is vulnerable, the virus seems very non discriminating in who it kills. Even healthy, young adults have died, so even if you feel immortal, remember, the stats show otherwise.
