Thanks for that tip! It saved me about $70 over what the dealer wanted to sell me one, "at cost".

It depends on the model too. The XR was about $700 cheaper than the XQ.

Don't forget the shipping cost as well. I don't know how much they charge to ship.

I would agree with that. Visibility doesn't seem to be a major problem with mine. The windows are long and I can see out them fine. I've always used my mirrors for lane changing anyway. It is darker looking out the rear view mirror (like the mirror is set to night).

I have to agree I love mine. I have a Trailer to haul stuff so it makes sense to keep every thing locked up and dry. It does also add to the Style of the DC SB.

Yea, I have taken an interest in the ARB's, now that they have a foglight incorporated with them. It is either the ARB or a shrockworks for my next bumper.

Shipping was $35, but no paying Mr. Gubmint, which is what I would have to do if I bought it from the stealer. So about $15 more, still a deal.

I started out with a fiberglas Leer tonneau - loved the way it looked and how it secured things in the bed, but because it took two to remove/re-install, it became somewhat limiting. So, I sold it and bought a Leer cap - more room, still secure, and no more difficult to remove and re-install than the tonneau.

One problem, though, is my bed-extender won't "flip" fore and aft any more due to the cap's locking hardware being in the way. Now I have to unlatch the extender, turn it around, and re-latch it, which is a bit of a hassle. Anyone without a Leer cap interested in a bed-extender?

Also, I strongly recommend a cap with an openable front window. Mine has a fixed window (my mistake), so cleaning is pretty much out of the question. A guy in Salem, OR, invented, and had manufactured, a device for washing the space between a truck cab and its bed and/or cap, but I haven't been able to find this tool being sold anywhere. I spoke to him on the phone about a year ago (found him after a bit on on-line research), but I think he suspected me of try to steal his invention because I never heard back from him like he'd promised. Guess I need to try again.

I personally think the SHrockworks is more visually appealing.... but i do like the well known "durability" of ARB, as well as the crash tested piece. And as you said, the incorporation of the fogs and signals is pretty nice.

Firestone Airbags in rear, with Firestone compressor.
My topper is an ARE brand. I watched Ebay and Craigslist until I found someone who purchased a used truck with a topper and had no need for it, so I could pick it up cheap. I think paid $200 for my topper, but had to drive to Iowa to pick it up ($75 in gas). It was originally dark blue with a white interrior. I then paid just under $300 to have it painted Mag Grey on the outside, and Dark Grey on the inside (The body shop had some left over paint they used on the inside so it didn't cost much more). I wanted it as dark as possible with the intent of my wife and I sleeping in it. Sometimes we stop at a truck stop and sleep while on a road trip. I tinted the windows to 5% (photos above are pre-tint, photos below are after tint), and with the dark interior you really can't see in, but you can still see out pretty well.

In all I think I was in for around $550 total for the topper.

My only regret is not getting the roof rack for hauling the kayaks.

That looks awesome. What kind of basket is that on top?

I really really really would like to buy a topper but unfortunately I dont think I will ever get one.

I live in a townhome with no garage so I have no place to store a topper. Maybe in my next home. (wishful thinking)

I also have a mountain bike which when placed in bed of the truck measures 42 inches tall. Getting a hitch type bike mount is out of the question because parking space is already tight and my neighbors all have suv's and trucks so it takes me a 80 point turn to get out of my parking space. Furthermore because average hitch rack weighs some and occupies space.. I really dont have a place to store it when I am not using it.

Neverless I keep hoping and keep researching.

I am an avid scuba diver so having a topper would DEFINITELY improve security aspects when traveling to and from dive sites.

Also because I am a diver I am spending obscene amount of money on hotel accommodations, quite needlessly. Even on a budget 50-70 bucks a night x20 weekends add up to more than half of what I could pay for a topper. It would be super to have a topper in which I could arrive at a dive site and sleep inside during the weekend. Restroom accommodations are available at the docks so in under 2 years that topper could pay for itself.

So if I had to make a recommendation I would advise that you looked into a topper with lockable side windows. I would also look into a topper with a slidable front glass thingie so you could open up your truck's rear window sliding window (if you have one) and have an air conditioned topper (super for when you transport pets). Carpet wise... you can probably make one yourself. Home depot sells washable rugs for as low as 40 cents per square foot. On the other hand professionally made carpets look a lot more presentable (if you seek utility AND style) but cost more.
