Not going to lie, I kinda want to get this done just for that fancy relay box... also the aux fan is a plus.

Ya. It’s just from experiences when you remove so many plastic dash panels and clips and start to loop wire looms to access wired etc worse things happen and or you introduce more squeaks through the dash plastic.

Maybe I’ll give it a year or so to let the local dealers have experience with it lol

@caribe makaira just out of curiosity, what is the wire they're splicing into? Connector 1F pin 16. Some models have this pin and some don't.

Yeah, I think if I were to have this done, I would remove everything before bringing it in... all they would do it put in the wires and the fan, then I would put everything else back together.

This is the same thing for every year back to 2017- with the complexity and issues their fix can cause, I did not want to let them do it to mine, no way! DIY it and simply put a manual switch or if you want automatic, just simply put a relay attached to the AC compressor clutch lead. That way, the fan will turn on whenever the AC compressor turns on. If you do tap into the compressor, also put a switch on it so that when you’re running defrost, the fan will not come on when you don’t need it.

Ya. I’m very surprised their solution wasn’t something like that. To click on with the A/C Clutch lead. Or just wire it up to a ambient temperature sensor. It just seem so out of place to do all that work on the interior for something that can be managed and controlled within the engine compartment.

This hits close to home because I live in South Texas and our ambient temp reaches 100+ from like Late May To September and almost on a daily basis.

A temp sensor relay is a good idea... an off the shelf one for a different car model would work. There are several that are
made to turn on at 200° and turn off at 180° F and they do not use a threaded radiator thermistor plug but have a simple thermistor on a long tube one can place right up next to the radiator.

There’s a few companies also selling them but they’re using house fan thermistors which can only be set to turn on as high as 110° or so, much too low for car engines.

I’ll look into it a bit and post some links later.

Living in Vegas I have been disappointed each summer with the lack of cold air in city driving and traffic situations. This seems like the answer. My hesitation is the same as all of you. Who knows how much care the tech will take to follow the instructions necessary to do a great job. And I'm not about to mess with the airbag system. I'm handy but I know my limitations.

I'm very curious to know more about the solution you guys have been conceiving.

    Bless....

I'll add my own electric fan before I let the monkeys go that deep... Many of us 80 Series LC guys have been doing this for years along with replacing the oil in the fan clutch to a thicker viscosity. Sad Toyota couldn't get this sorted as its only been happening for the last 20+ years

Just for reference, when I researched this a few years ago, it appeared that the TSB just electrically connects the new fan to the ECU to match the Mexico configuration. Yes, Mexico trucks appear to come with the condenser fan from factory. US doesnt get them unless you do this stupid TSB. The ECU already has grounded output to turn the condenser fan off and on, but I cant find any of the logic in the manual and it doesnt show in my techstream.
    upload_2018-9-2_1-1-3.jpg
However, At least the TSB now uses a fan that actually fits.

The original the stealership had to cut legs off the fan up to fit...
    No lie

The old TSB shows the mechanic where to cut the fan off to fit...

Does it mention the part number for the "new" fan?

Could you simply add a fan, relay and dash switch?
