I grew up in upstate NY and never saw or touched one until I joined the military out of high school. I was a weapons officer in the Navy for most of my career and developed an affinity for the platform. Since retiring, I have built no less than a couple dozen, mostly in an instructional capacity teaching people how easy it is to understand, build, and maintain their own rifle. The platform is LEGOS for adults. It can be custom tailored for your particular taste and/or application. Nothing beats the accuracy of a properly bedded bolt gun, but modern AR platform can give the bolt gun a run for the money with faster follow up shots and sufficient accuracy to shoot distances farther than most of us can see. The platform has reached a stage of validity in sporting and hunting applications, well beyond its roots in the military. It is not the proverbial wartime implement portrayed in the movies. Hell, most people will never see, much less shoot a fully automatic weapon of any kind. The modern sporting rifle (I despise the term AR) is a tool for the hunter, the competitive shooter, or the average joe who just wants to plink at range. It is not the 4 MOA rifle the military contracted. Today's MSR can be SUB-MOA for the right investment. For those who understand our Constitution, it's the tool that keeps a tyrannical government in check. Last but not least, it's the tool that keeps any mindful people from wanting to ever invade our country. If you call yourself a gun owner, a patriot, a citizen ..... you need one in your arsenal, and if you own one, you need to know how to be proficient with it.

Thanks, it has been California'ized since this picture but still great to shoot.

Can't go wrong with any FN product. Their build quality is top notch. In my last buy, I was debating a SCAR or X95. I went X95, but a SCAR is still on my bucket list.

You are correct. The optic is not cheap, but you can use the damn thing as a hammer and it holds zero. It is truly a end of the world optic. It is illuminated, but it's a prism optic, so if the lights go out, it still works. The scar is battle tested tough and easily stripped down to field clean. About the only thing that runs longer is an AK.

You know you are 99% right but I was an early adopter to the FNP 45. It was a soft, reliable and accurate shooter and held 15 I think, not bad at all for a .45ACP. BUT when warm the front end polymer got really soft and melty. NOT a good feature for a gun with an unsupported rail. The other negative was completely unique mags, the other and future FNX 45's mags wouldn't work. Factory mags were crazy expensive. Dead end gun.

I played with one when OSS first real came to market. Put like 400-500 rounds through it. They are nice cans. At the time the price was a bit silly so i never picked one up. But looks like the price has dropped a lot since then.
