Sometimes you have to stop theorizing and go in there and check shit. I used to have a business partner that would sit there for hours pouring over prints trying to figure out why a system failed. In the meantime, I would start checking stuff, find the fault and fix it while he was still sitting at this desk.

The operative part of Resistor, is......wait for it, Resist. In almost every operation in the truck, resistance is a problem. Here, it is a operation. Boom! Most failures in blower motor resistors has the blower motor working on only one speed, sometimes Hi and low, but not medium, etc.. It's a inexpensive part that fails in every car on the planet. I've sold hundreds.

There was a post a while back saying that the connector should be replaced at the same time. Make sure the dealer does that.

That's only true for the earlier GM-supplied resistors which had poor pin fitment. Hasn't been an issue for almost a decade now.

I'm still suspicious of it. No root cause on this thread - for 2 resistors in a row.

I bet the blower is faulty, or there’s a connection issue somewhere on the circuit. The resistor does get cooled by the air the blower moves. Best of luck.

Take the cabin air filter out and check for garbage. It's free and easy.

Faulty resistor is ruled out now.

My money is on junk in the blower.

Warranty won't cover that mouse nest. And you'll be left with a bill.

    Update:

So I came to Longo Toyota and claimed warranty . They accepted it but were pretty upset over the fact that I changed out the resistor previously. Anyways they said in order to follow protocol, they needed to process by elimination. So of course first thing on the list is a faulty resistor. And with my luck, I took their only resistor yesterday and now they are out of resistors. So I will bring my truck back tomorrow and get a third resistor in 5 days. They also said something about a loose connector pin so possible culprit? Will update tomorrow...

I don't really have mice and rodents around where I live. And my truck is pretty new at around 8 months old. I'm pretty sure it's not the cabin air filter and more of an electrical issue.

Picture of second resistor on left. Seemed like it melted more than the first. Looks like it definitely is a failsafe of some sort.

So, my sister’s 90s explorer wouldn’t blow strongly for a year or two before i visited and checked it out— seems a rodent had made a nest in the HVAC case out of the firewall insulation. It completely encased the blower motor, and blocked airflow over the evaporator core as well. I don’t think a clogged cabin air filter is gonna hurt it :)

I had a 2004 Honda pilot that blew a thermal overload from dust clogging the rear blower intake filter.

I was just making a point, no one tests anything, they throw parts at things. Even the dealers do this now.

I have customers call me all the time,. My dryer isn't heating, I've changed this that and those and it still won't heat. They have 200 bucks in it and i find a 25 dollar switch bad. So now they pay my labor and part which was less than their parts cost them. Factor in their wasted time and the cost is even higher.

Guys at work called me yesterday, they replaced a 3000 dollar motor and gearbox combo that wasn't bad. I fixed the problem over the phone in 25 minutes by walking them through the issue, they didn't even need a part.

This is why there are no good mechanics anymore. Guess and check costs money, way more than the 2 minutes it takes the check for a mouse nest.

I just hate seeing people piss money away.

I'm not saying it is a nest, it could be electrical, I'm just saying it's a quick, easy, free check. And if it's not that, let the dealer handle it since it's under warranty.
