How are things in the 'Rica?

 

Howdy howdy, all's well in Maine currently. Still moving lumber and buying bits for my engine rebuild.

 

Everything is shut down here. Including beachs, national parks, valcanos, all tourist sites. Just like everywhere I'm sure. Except for supermarkets, medical facilities, and pharmacies. They are open.

There's a nightime driving ban in affect here. On weekdays it's from 10:00PM to 05:00AM, and on weekends its 8:00PM to 05:00AM.

It's Easter holidays here and for the next week the ban is in affect during the daytime as well. Based on you licence plate, you are allowed to drive on one day this week.

It's hardcore measures l know. I'm not the kind of guy to just give up my freedoms, but it wouldn't take much to severely overload the health care system here. So I'm happy to do my part. The measures seem to have helped so far, but the number of sick is slowly going up. Just not as quickly as many other places.

But other than all that. Things are good for us. It's a beautiful country to have to self-isolate one self.

 

We had a pretty strong storm blow through our area today. While on my weekly grocery run, the wind blew half a tree onto the road right in front of me. About 30 feet long, 200 pounds. I had zero time to react. Plowed right through it. Thickest part of the branch hit my front tow hook and kicked the branch out of the way. Minor scratches, no major damage. Would have totaled my wife’s Forester. Rosie handled it like a beast.

 

Lucky! Glad there wasn't any injuries, must've been one hell of a thud.

big thud and a good hop as I went over the smaller branches.

I faired better that the Dodge Ram that I saw go through a fence and into a shed. Should never speed on very wet roads with in unladen pickup truck. Add in an S turn and you will have a bad day.

 

Yeesh, yeah bad day is an understatement. I'd add, nobody who gets a swollen head because they have a 4wd in the winter should be allowed to go over 40. The number of trucks I see off the highway each winter up here...

I used to have an AWD Corolla wagon which i used multiple times to pull trucks out of snow. Could only tow about 3k lbs but that was often still enough to get trucks unstuck. It had an immasculating effect on full-size pickup owners, which humored me.

 

Been busy today. Just now checkin' in.

 

Toyota also had a 4x4 Tercel and Honda had 4x4 Civic. They were cool cars

 

Isn't every day busy in some regard?

 

Many years ago I had a Subaru Forester. I used it to pull out many Dodge, Ford and Chevy full size from the mud. One Tundra that had tipped onto its side. But the best was a Mercedes G-Wagon. Getting that one unstuck screwed up my clutch. Once I got the guy out, he handed me $900 in cash, I had a new clutch and 4 tires put into my Scooby. It was built well enough to do the easy trails around the Rubicon, including a couple of the "medium" trails. Didn't have the flex or ground clearance for the hard stuff, but I could often get close enough to either pull or offer firm support to pull themselves out.

All it took to kill it though, my now ex wife took it to San Fransisco. When she finally got it home, trans would only go into third, clutch (that only had 11k on it) was barely engaging, engine was smoking like a sailor (head gaskets blown), and the radiator was half full. I made her pay for the repairs. $7000 in 2004. 11 days after it was done and back on the road, I had it parked in a lot that backed up to the freeway. Accident on the freeway sent a logging truck off the road and the trunks squashed it. I was so sad... Car was so ugly, but I had it perfectly setup...I drove it absolutely everywhere.

 

I'd think about divorcing somebody that could kill a subie that fast too...
