    All,

I’ve searched 5100 treads/post ad nauseam. I’m debating on purchasing Bilstein 5100s and installing on stock coils at the .85” setting. I have a 2015 TRD Sport Access Cab 4x4 V6 with EZ-990 Helper Spring Kit on the rear, so it sits a bit higher in the back. I’m also running 265/70R17 BFG KOs AT and I don’t plan on going any bigger. I’ve reached out to a handful of members that have this setup and received some great responses. I just wanted to put it out there to see how many 2nd gen owners have this setup and if they’re happy with it. I’d also like to hear about any issues you’ve encountered since installation (Needle bearing, CV, alignment issues etc.). I have no desire to lift the front anymore than this.

I wouldn’t do any hard 4-wheeling, the only off road activity would be for beach access and trail riding for camping, fishing and hunting.

    Thanks

I had that setup for almost 100k miles w/ heavy duty dakars on the rear. No complaints! Worked very well for what I needed. In fact, I probably should've stuck w/ a more basic setup since what I have now is more than overkill. But wanted to try it out.
And I'll also throw out there that I have a pair of 1/2" toytec top plate spacers for sale if you need them to help even out the front and back.

I vote yes because I also want to do this to my 2015 DCSB Off Road. Interested in seeing how it turns out!

I wondered about this too (but set at no lift) and from what I took from the bilstein website was the 5100 is not recommended for stock springs. I may have not comprehended correctly or it may just be bilstein not knowing real world experience. But it definitely gave me pause.

I have had 5100s on .85" setting for 90k miles. No issues, I didn't notice a change in ride, but obviously it was firmer after the lift. I have a 4 cylinder and it raised the front 1" and the truck sits level with both the OE springs and the recall replacements.

Same here - raised the front about 1" and leveled it out nicely while maintaining a slight rake.

That was the first lift I had on my truck,I went ahead and removed the sway bar as well. Loved it,rode great and without the sway bar is was a softer ride. Go for it!

Do you have any take off shudder or vibration, before or after the helper kit in the back?

I rock stock TRD OR coils (the progressive wound ones) at 1.75in setting and LOVE them. The extra stiffness gets rid of the boat like ride of the truck stock. At the .85 setting it would be less stiff and closer to stock, id have ZERO problem with them at that setting too.

    X2.

I had them @ .85 on stock Offroad coils for about 60k miles, and the ride was great.
I now have a newer set of 5100's on a newer set of Offroad coils, set @ 1.75", and agree with the above statement.

With the stock coils I felt the Bilsteins were highly under sprung as stock coils are only 540lbs. Not an issue really if you're looking for a small lift but I noticed that rebound was a bit softer than I prefer.

If you're trying to go 2"+ I would recommend Bilstein pro lift springs or ome (885 excluded as they are heavy and require a nitrochargers or similar progressive shock) , the springs do the lifting and the 620lb 2.5" spring rate pairs well with the heavier than stock valving of the 5100.

But as I like to say, it's all personal preference and if it works for you then that should be sufficient for your setup and your taste.

I've had my 5100s set at .85 for about 60k miles. No issues at all. It gives my truck a nice aggressive stance. My avatar pic is how it sits.

Headstrong sells a 2" and a 2.5" coil designed specifically for the bilstein 5100s. I just recently installed the 2.5 and couldn't be happier. Considering it's only an extra 150-200 bucks on top of the shocks, it was a no brainer for me. Doesnt exactly help OP's situation or maybe it does. But figured I'd throw this in there.

I just did this like a month ago. All stock suspension except for 5100's on all 4 corners. Had the struts set to .85". It almost levels the truck out but still has an ever so small rake which I prefer. Ride quality is fantastic, hard to compare to stock since I think my stock shocks/struts were well worn, so for me it's a vast improvement. So far I have not experienced any negative effects.

I should also note the picture in my signature is outdated and I run 265/75/16's.

No shutter or vibration. I bought it used and it already had the Hellwigs on there. It comes in handy during hunting season when I pick up about 1200 pounds of corn and rides great with that amount of weight.
