I was down around that after the shit hit the fan. Going back up, have six figures in cash in an IRA I rolled over that I dont know what to do with right now. I'll probibly put 20% of that at least into an S&P index fund on the next market dip.

I am not that deep into retirement accounts yet. But, there's value in looking and then a few months/years from now, seeing that you're back where you were. If you bailed when it was down, you'd be screwed. There's a lesson to learn in knowing that the market will recover and seeing just how far down you were :D

Its funny because I dont even remember the market tanking as bad as it did in dec 2018 because I flat out didnt look and want laying attention LOL!! Just since this all started I have actually been paying attention, mainly to build up some emergency funds with stop losses and looking for some bargains.

I have seen "seasonal illness" thrown around lately for this coronavirus. If that's the case, and it comes back in the fall, things may get very interesting. I think a vaccine will be needed to calm the economy and market. We can't close everything down forever.

Oh for sure, it will be like the Swine flu where we just get vaccinated for it as part of the flu vaccine.

The part that sucks is a vaccine is 18months away at least. I am confident though that companies and business will come up with methods to keep people apart and limiting the spread, and weather we know it or not we have new habits around this. I think more promising is the anti viral treatments they are testing right now, that will hold it over until the vaccine.

What I am scared of more is the powers at be who shall not be named on TW meddling in the financial markets. That will make it much harder to get a return long term and to plan for things in the future.

It really goes both ways, when it goes up 20% you really didnt gain anything. The only time it matters is when you sell either way.

That's a long way of saying you dont think about it LOL

The Feds a private bank so as long as we keep it to their policies it should be allowed. I was just reading this morning how there's some ideas floating around to let the Fed buy stock. Lots of other countries reserve banks already do. The US doesn't allow it and for good reason. It's hard to have a free market economy when a central bank can manipulate markets.

Yea please elaborate on this. I am not sure that anyone at TW has enough money to "move" the markets (I may be wrong on that).

Edit: Ignore this, I thought you said people on TW were meddling lol

I was thinking they’d be cheaper for longer, but everyone was desperate for good news, and seeing the potential for this to end relatively soon is all we needed. I still think there’s a chance it trends down a little before actually climbing back. But if we are already on the climb, then yes, I wish I had gotten after it more also.

That was what was in the article I posted from april 2017, along with a whole bunch of other ones I found (from reputable sources). A lot of people think the fed has been buying stocks since before then as their balance sheet was rising lock step with the stock market.

What freaked me out a bit was at a press conference someone high up suggested we need to act more like Europe and japan during this. Both of those are a financial mess from a central bank perspective, and both have been pumping money into their and our stock markets for a while now.

The securities markets have also been rising with the stock market. If the Fed is buying stock they'd have the SEC all over their ass. I'm not saying it's not possible just that I believe they could use other assets to keep their balance sheets inline.

Can someone help me out? If break even is 11.18 and it says I’m in the green already, but the stock is above 11.18 how is that possible?

I know this is morbid as hell but i haven't really seen it mentioned literally anywhere. But am i the only one that realizes that the more people die from any pandemic - the more economic opportunity there is for everyone that makes it through? Hard reality to face but each death regardless of reason is another job available, inheritance going somewhere, maybe house/ apartment/ property, car etc.. *Obviously there's a lot to lose on the human end, i'm not trying to negate that, just offering a different view

I have seen people mention things like this in various comments. It is definitely true. That's why I think the theory of China making a biological weapon to kill off their old, non-contributors, with a virus that seems to do just that, has some merit.
