4th generation exterior dimensions. Smaller or larger than 3rd?

I hope they dont get fuel mileage Tundra gets.

 

Toyota has been listening. They know that people want:

- More payload capacity.
- More towing capacity.
- Better off road abilty.
- Bigger tires.
- Less chrome.
- Diesel engine.
- A standardized ugly as hell grill.
- A Bigger overall vehicle.
- A winch.

They realize that people really don't care about:

- Fuel economy.
- Overall practicality.
- Different trim levels.

the last time at our dealer, they swore up and down, the 5.7 v8;would be the standard engine with the v6 hybrid optional. It seems reasonable. Toyota goes for reliability. The hybrid 3.5// v8 woukd each be very reliable. A v6 turbo alone would not.

 

a V6 turbo non hybrid does pretty good for Ford.

 

Does anyone know how the BMW twin turbo V6 in the Supra is doing? It would make sense to me to increase production of the BMW engine if it passes muster.

Or is that a straight 6 BMW engine? Even better if is.

 

It’s a bmw motor......so much for Toyota reliability reputation. The demands in a truck are much greater imo.

 

It doesn’t compare to the reliability of every gas motor used by Toyota in all their hybrids. The reason is simple. The electric motors help handle the torque needs which is a huge advantage to the gas motor longevity while electrics do torque easily.

plus, the CVt isn’t a belt but planetary gears which uses the electric motor more at low rpms under heaviest load and supplements the gas motor the rest if the way at higher rpms. The gas motor gets help from two electrics all the time. It has to be easier on it.

 

Toyota has used Yamaha made engines in some of there vehicles in the past.

 

Yamaha brand marine motors have been exceptional. They’re a reasonably reliable company brand.

 

If I remember correctly the original Ford Taurus SHO had a Yamaha engine too.

 

I am pretty sure that at the time the Taurus SHO with the Yamaha engine was the fastest Ford you could buy.

I took my 1993 MR2 out for a spin with T-roofs off in some partly sunny weather yesterday. It was great to get on some now empty streets and briefly stomp on it and get the turbo to spool up. The valve cover on its 3S-GTE engine says "Toyota" but the cylinder head is made by Yamaha. To be "Powered By Yamaha" is definitely NOT a bad thing.

 

The 1/2jz head was designed by yamaha

 

Bmw inline 6s are always on point and historicly always have probably why toyota chose them

Its just the tech that surrounds the motor in the car theyre put in

 

I recall it falling about half a second behind a Mustang 0-60 and the 1/4 but still very respectable for a family sedan.

 

I wish they'd go smaller. I certainly don't need a full size-midsize truck!

 

High hp, low torque gas motors can only be used in large trucks if they have turbos or electric motor assist. You tell me, which puts more demand on the motor ?

The bmw 6 in a truck ? By all means, buy one. I’ll take the one Toyota chooses.

 

It was probably their better motor choice for what it was used for.

 

Agree. One foot shorter with a five foot bed and extended cab.
