Would it be safe to? (piecing together my own lift)

What would be the requirements?

I'm really new to the lift scene so here's what i'm looking at so far:

Front - FOX Shox 2.5" Remote Reservoir Coil-overs


Rear - All-Pro 3" Lift Rear Leaf Springs paired with [FONT=tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]2.0 Rear Fox Shox



And a UCA of choice.

I may go with icon's or Walker Evans for the front and rear depending on price.

[/FONT]I'm on about a $2000-$2500 budget, but dont want it to end up costing more in the end so I'm trying to get pieces that i can just keep building off of as a good start.

My biggest question is will the shocks up front still keep the truck level and not have the raked look?

Also, would it be alright to put the shocks in the front with just a UCA and would it handle it?

Like i said i want a solid base and i feel like I'm just looking at pieces and don't even know if they would be good together.

Also, I have looked at the RCD / Procomp / Fabtech drop bracket kits, and i really don't want to deal with a drop bracket or cutting anything.

I will eventually get a Long travel kit when i move back to California which is why I'm trying to stay away from the drop brackets. As of now I'll be going to Hawaii and don't expect to be doing a lot of jumping.

I've looked around at A LOT of the builds and haven't found any that seem to have went this route, so I'm just making sure it'll be alright.

Any help on this would be awesome and greatly appreciated.

The Icon Stage 1 kit. Seems to have most of what I'm looking for and will get me a decent budget when i pick up UCA's. And will allow me to Purchase a rear leaf kit.

ya i have the same setup except i dont have the fox coilovers, i have different ones. With the Rear springs you will need the u bolt flip kit and the longer brake lines. But if you plan on long traveling the front then you would want to long travel the rear i would assume and the best setup for the is a SUA, bedcage, bypass shocks etc. But to answer your question yes that would work.

well if you look at your stock leaf springs, they sit on top of the axle and those all Pro leafs would as well. But to long travel it you would get leaf springs that would go under the axle(All Pro has some, the are called the Baja leafs). They are much softer springs and allow for much more travel in both directions. If you get those then you will need new shocks...but you cant get shocks that go into the stock shock mounts. you cant shocks that would allow for the amount of travel those Baja leafs give. So you would need to get a bed cage so you could mount bypass shocks thru the bed. And to mount those springs,because they dont mount using the stock spring hanger and shackles, you would have to get the new hanger and shackles and limit staps etc. and they would have to be welded in. i could email you a flyer from all pro about there baja leafs.

Mainly pics of the side and probably of the Control arms [both upper and lower] and also what bumper/tire size are you running and how much lift did you gain? Did you have any leveling problems?

I will be running the stock bumper for a while, probably until it becomes necessary [ie: it breaks] So what do you think ill be able to stuff under there without removing that? I don't mind picking up a set of spacers if needed.

I'll probably pass on the Baja leafs for now, i seen them on their site and read about them, i don't want to deal with all that yet, But eventually, got a while before i'll need them i think.

save your money and wait. That way you dont have to buy another set of shocks when you go LT.

 

well right now i have the coilovers cranked to about 2.5-3" and right now i have 305/65/17 tires on them, they are just wide 33's, and had to do some trimming to the black plastic in the wheel well at the bottom and had to trim some of the bumper/ fender flare just a bit on both side of the tire. With the All Pro leafs, the rear is a little bit higher then the front. But i will be getting spindles from camburg here very shortley since i am a Prerunner(cant get them if you are 4WD), and that will give me 4' of lift and i will be able turn crank the coilovers down close to zero to level it out. i will upload some pics in like 10 min once i get them.

I am looking for something to do with the truck BEFORE i get the LT, it will be a few years at the least before i get the kit. I'm pretty set on getting SOMETHING i can have fun with in the meantime.

that looks good, and i was looking at the Icon stage 1 kit and it seemed priced really well. your truck doesnt seem to be too raked to me. but i may go the the OME Dakar leaf's since its only a 2.75 lift instead of 3.

So far i think im going to go with the Icon stage 1 kit with res's and the OME Leaf pack and some UCA's Comes to just under $3000..

Found mrgrimms-mall-crawler build on here and it has a pretty similar set up and it looks great. so i think it will all work out pretty well.

I think now my only question is: would i be able to stuff some 285/70/17's in there... And i still may go with the FOX's since the Res's in the front come to about the same cost. and what UCA's are you running?

 

Well the All Pro leaf pack is going to give a softer ride and provide the most flex. And those Icon rear shocks are made by edlebrock, they ride very stiff from what i heard, i think edlebrock shocks are like$100 for the pair so you can decide for yourself. I am running All Pros UCA's, i never put the sticker on them that they gave me. And you will be able to fit those in there with some trimming.

Yeah, they looked like allpro, that's why i was asking. I may go with Fox front and back since the Icon's up from are about the same price. I like the bracket the Fox's come with for the reservoir also. I wonder if ALLPRO carries the new black versions... hmmm...

 

I believe they only make them in the black versions, the blue was the older version, and maybe they havnt updated the picks. Also those rear shocks are $300 each not the pair

If you want to do it right the first time, I would suggest you go with the:

Icon extended length coilovers
Camburg or Total Chaos UCA
Deaver or All-Pro springs
Icon rear shocks

DO not get the Dakar springs and the Icon shocks. The Icon shocks are too short. I do not recommend the Fox coilovers as they do not give you as much lift as the Icons. This means that you will be doing ALOT more cutting and trimming of your fenders to fit 33's.

If I were you, I would wait and get the LT if that is what you really want. You will save alot of cash going this route because you will do it the way you want it the first time. Trust me...

I want something to hold me over for a while, so im pretty set on getting something to play with.

So, by allpro springs you mean the 3" leaf kit ?

Have you tried the icons in the back? your post kinda contradicts itself by sying i should go with them and then saying they wont work with the OME Dakar leafs, Would you suggest i go with Fox in the rear and Icon in the front?

pretty damn good. If thats the route i want to go.

 

I do plan on switching out the Fox's in the rear on my truck with some custom length Icon's. Those fox's are still about a 1/2" too short for the Dakar's.

All-Pro will be coming out with a new leaf pack that will give almost the same lift as the Dakars but not as harsh as a ride as the Dakars. SHould be out soon. I would go with those.

I used to have Icon's in the rear but the Dakar's provide too much of a lift for them. Call up Icon or Demello and see if they can get you the right length shocks for the lift you plan on having.

I just ordered the stage 3 Icon setup for my wifes 4runner. I am really anxious to see how the truck handles after putting that on.

I have the Front Icons on now and love the ride up front but the rear can be a bit harsh at times with the Dakars.
