Just took a class on radiation exposure, this seemed like a fun exercise to break out the textbook.

The standard unlimited threshold for working (in the U.S.A.) is 25 uSv/hr, or 50000 uSv per year. You are allowed to work 40 hours a week up to that point.

2.3 uSv/hr is roughly 3x the average exposure that we normally receive- the average US person gets about 6200 uSv per year just from walking around and eating bananas (0.7 uSv/hr). (Terrestrial background is a small percentage of that, admittedly. The majority of our exposure comes from atmospheric radon and medical procedures.) You don't really see acute, known effects until you receive an external dose of 100000 uSv. Calculated probability of adverse health effects from being exposed to 2.0 uSv for one hour: 0.00009%.

I purposely avoided where the real danger lies in that paragraph, though. The big worry about being around a radioactive fire is the airborne particulate. Shit goes south in a hurry if you inhale/ingest a beta or gamma emitter. Wear a mask if you visit Chernobyl.

I just wanted to thank you for keeping me amused while I’m stuck at home. Every post you make in this thread I just picture some dude with a bright red face and a vein in his forehead that’s about to explode. The image actually makes me laugh more then most threads.

Chernobyl isn't on my bucket list. However, the Russians will probably say it's as safe as a couple dental X rays.

Yeah, Russian X-rays. Probably still using machines from the 70s.

You can stop any time you want. Me, my only concern is that I'm actually Living until the end, weather the end is 55 or 105. My family is well aware that I want the plug pulled if I'm gonna be a vegetable.

If you end up driving an Accord Crosstour (like the cammer in the video), you're effectively a vegetable...
