What do you do to keep feeders from becoming a nuisance to your T?

I'm talking, in an "unable to remove if my T didn't eat it" situation.

I switched from Dubia roaches to Lateralis to avoid that situation. I've never had a T refuse a Lateralis since they run all over the place.

Progress! Spidersworld is shipping to a few countries now at least. Hopefully US will be added to that list soon.

    Welllllllll….

Should mean you'll get yours shipped since they don't "ship to the US"

    You're the exception!

With that being said, unveiling video is in order when you get your T's!

Should just let them all out at once for a play date :anonymous:

Lol I wish. Poland is prohibiting shipping to other countries right now regardless of Spidersworld's shipping wishes.

One thing I’d like to know is how you pick up your feeder and not smush it with the feeder tongs?? I thot maybe I’d glue on a piece of sponge on the end...hate to have em already opened up when the T gets it :anonymous:

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

    Took me awhile too!

I like crickets for this reason, but they're kind of hard to get to when smashing their head in.

So with roaches and crickets, I dangle them by their legs.

Mealworms are easier; just pick it up from the head and crush its face and drop it in with your T.

Here's my feeder collection process: I keep my feeder lateralis roach colony in a big storage big with egg crates. I grab one of the smaller hand-sized pieces of egg crate and whack that onto an empty Daisy sour cream plastic container and that dislodges about 20 roaches of various sizes each time. I take that sour cream container and tilt it until some of the roaches can start to climb the walls of the container. I target a roach of the appropriate size for the T I want to feed and use a paint brush to brush it into a clear small 10 dram container. Once the roach is in the small container I just dump them into the T's enclosure without messing with tongs.

Question for ya; roaches only for your T's?

Or do you vary it up?

I’ve been catching either a roach or cricket into a small longer than film canister tube and dropping em in. But most of the m balfouri are holed in and dug in, thot about target placing at entrance with tong.

You guys make me out to be a monster the way I treat my feeders

The head and face crushing though is to protect my T's and prevent said feeder from burrowing.

Not an issue with Penelope, she rushes and eats anything within view.

Lady Gaga and Mini Me take their time and I never want to put them at risk.

    When a T molts, it's very vulnerable.

It just lays there on its back while trying to push out of their exoskeleton IE molt

A cricket can end up eating it while the tarantula is in the process of a molt, same with a meal worm (or mealworm turned beetle), and other prey.

Also, immediately after a molt, a tarantula's body is soft and its fangs as well so it can't immediately take down prey without hurting itself.

If you own a tarantula and see that it's burrow is blocked off with webbing, this is the universal sign for LEAVE ME ALONE.

It may be getting ready to molt.

Same can be said if it lays down a patch of molt on the ground to lay on.

Roaches 95% of the time. I'll get a bowl of superworms every now and then to vary the diet a bit ... and now that I have a Goliath I suppose a mouse might be in the cards.
