Yea it sucks but I guess the logic is that could end up being a domino effect and next thing you know everyone is doing it.

Well the government has deemed my job “essential” so I have to go to work and interact with about 50-100 people every day. I can chose to stay home but if I do I’m not able to receive any government benefits or entitlement. So Monday - Friday the government says go to work and on the weekend they tell me to stay home. Really. NO!
I know most of you won’t agree with me but that’s ok. I’m careful when I’m forced to go to work and I’m careful when I go out. Just my venting.

I hear you, 100%. I'm lucky that I can work from home but at the same time, seeing these same 4 walls is making me want to tear my hair out. And the sad looks my dog gives me. We go on daily walks but he misses truck rides as much as I do. I've got a full tank of gas, a couple of jerry cans, and I can bring any food/lunch/snacks with me from home so I literally never have to stop or get out of my truck. And I wouldn't attempt anything crazy or technical right now just to avoid recovery risks. But... there's no where to go now. If it hasn't been shut down by the state/government, now they're giving out fines that I don't want to risk. It blows, but the sooner we all just suck it up and stay in doors the sooner it'll be over and we can get back out there. In theory. Fingers crossed. All of the crossing. Crossing my dog's toes at this point too.

That's what we were talking about with Cleghorn and Pilot Rock a page back - that site doesn't say the roads are closed but there are multiple reports that Rangers are giving out $400 fines if they catch up with you. So technically the roads are open....but you also risk a fine?

I'd be mad if I got fined..Also...God forbid, something happens, a car / truck/slams into you, a tree falls on your truck, anything where you need to hospitalized that you never saw coming and/or not your fault. It's not about US thinking, ahh we'll be alright, we're good drivers, we have good situational awareness etc....

    People:

A hospital is the LAST place you want to be right now, even IF they have the resources to treat you..That is the whole point, they are trying to make..It's not about the social distancing and the actual disease.

Think about this, in some cities they may start rationing care for people based on age, the severity of illness/injury etc...

I've been trying to get an answer to this question, but not going nowhere. I've called a few ranger stations but no one ever answered.

This, 100%. Using valuable first responder resources right now, let alone being in an ICU or otherwise due to injury. If you weren't sick before, guess what.

So I’ve been giving this a lot of thought and trying to figure out if there are any options to get out there and have some fun while still being responsible considering the situation. It sounds like any area that has any potential for being patrolled is a risk of getting fined.

What about places further out in the desert away from civilization? High desert, low desert? Places past Barstow or past Indio?

For me, a round trip to Barstow or similar (not to mention miles actually spent wheeling) would deplete my gas and nullify the whole not stopping anywhere because I'd need to get gas at some point. I don't think I could get to an area remote enough and back on a single tank. Thinking about it from a recovery standpoint, if anything happened and I got stuck and couldn't self-recover that's also an issue.

I know this whole thing blows, and I'm only speaking for myself here, I don't want to be that jerk that gets stuck/stranded/etc. Trust me, I've scoured every app, website, and book trying to find somewhere to go that would be nearby and safe but I think I'm just gonna have to suck it up and wait it out and hope this doesn't go into May.

All state and county areas are closed HARD. The 4x4 roads in AB are blocked off with orange safety barriers, at least the ones around Canon Sin Nombre and the Great Overland Route are. However, National Forrest and National Wilderness lands are open (but not National Parks, can't wheel there anyway), Valley of the Moon was open last week and seemed super-popular, I have never seen so many people out there. Parking lot is still only half full. And the desert marigolds are in full bloom.
