Yes I agree, a good school is essential to a good town IMO. We have a crowd in our town whose children are done and want to get rid of our elementary school entirely! That will not happen because 95% of the town doesn't agree with that luckily.

Building new is always sketchy IMO. A lot of people involved that don't understand building, or on the other hand, don't understand what a school needs vs a hospital or hotel.... Lots of issues with the new high school down the road from me. It does need to be done everyonce and a while though.

The problem is it wasn't just a new high school for the district, it was their first high school - I was the last class that went to the next town over for high school. After my graduating class, they were full time at that school. There was a ton of locations they could have chose, but instead they chose to build it on a "plateau" in the middle of the woods a mile from the closest road. They had to blast the ever living S$%& out of the ground, which actually caused people living ~1 mile away to have cracked foundations, well problems, etc etc. Fortunately from the staffing level at least, it seemed to go a lot better. But it was a total and utter disaster. My sister graduated 3 years before me, she was supposed to be the last one to go to that high school, instead it was me, 3 years later - it was that behind schedule o_O

Fortunately in east prov, they're building the new high school basically in the sports fields of the old one, then they'll tear down the old one and make those the sports fields. And being this close to cities and major projects, they can get a decent crew and have experience.

Why would you get rid of schools!? That's both awesome and hilarious to hear. I love/hate hearing the old grouches who had kids go through the system then a few years later decide they shouldn't support it anymore since their kids are done.

We have a few towns around here that are definitely proof of that!

Mine's getting up there, but I think some of the problem is we're basically paying into three school districts. The whole school union model with an elementary in each town (that is its own separate entity) and tuition agreements to a separate high school is ridiculous and inefficient--I'll bet if this town were part of a regional district we'd see a big difference.

They lock you in when you apply. I inquired pretty early on before all of the stay at home orders. Rates actually went up a little but I was still good

I was there a few weeks ago. The outside looks nice, but I was not impressed with the inside. Everything's white and gray and it just looks very institutional. It seems they realized that and put up this partial faux wood wall in the lobby, but it just ended up looking odd and out of place.

We had a mortgage broker when we bought our house and they told us the same thing. Problem is, they didn't lock us in even though they told us they did. They ended up eating a point to get us the rate we were promised at the beginning. They were absolutely terrible, lot more to that story, that was just the icing on the cake. I absolutely lost it on them and they agreed to eat the point and at least get us the lower rate. I'll never go with a broker again.

Haha next time call my guy. I've used him for 2 houses and this refinance. And we're using him for the next house as well. He's very direct, not going to act all nice nice, but he's aggressive and very good. He helped me get approved when my income was 60% commission, and everyone else wanted me to get a cosigner

We got recommended to the broker by our realtor (who we really liked). She had known the owner of the broker company and worked with him for a long time. We sort of filled her in on what was going on and she was absolutely appalled. It seems like the Owner used to do everything on his own and he actually is really good. He was expanding too quickly and the people working for him didn't have the same attention to detail. It finally got resolved in the end when the owner got involved in our situation. We got a personal message from him and things went very quickly from that point forward. The guy we worked with him before then was terrible. For example, my wife has an _ in her e-mail address. If you leave it out, the other account belongs to someone. Early in the process, he screwed it up, the other person responded but it wasn't a big deal, no personal information was on the message, it was just an intro. At the end, the full agreement that has EVERYTHING on it was sent to the same incorrect e-mail address after we told that dope to correct it no less than 6 times. I made the broker company buy us Lifelock for 5 years because they just let all of our personal information out to a perfect stranger.

If/when we move, I may reach out to find out who your guy is. We're looking to move within 2 years. We like our house but want to get off the main street and a little bigger yard. May go a little bigger on the house but probably not too much, just a better layout.

Depends - We weren't locked in on our mortgage rate (I mean we were ballparked within reason) until day of, maybe it was clear to close don't remember. Maybe refi is different.

Can you PM me your guy? We're in RI too. I should actually touch base with our guy from purchase too, he was really good. I've only start with our current lender to look at a refi.

I can't send his info over.

I don't know, every time i've been approved for a mortgage i'm locked in for a certain amount of time. i think it's like 60 days. after that you have to get it re-approved

Same here. We live on a road that's not super busy, but busy enough. It's a common motorcycle road street. I'm going to throat punch a Harley owner one of these days. There's a guy that lives on my street that downshifts every gear coming to a stop to make as much noise as humanly possible. Drives me bonkers. I went from sorta disliking most motorcycle readers before I moved here to actively disliking nearly all of them, which is a shame because I know there's plenty of riders with quiet pipes and decent manners. /rant.

I have a lock until 5/10 for my rate that was signed on 3/11, so that sounds right.

Go out and cough on him next time. Maybe it'll convince him to take a different route

I am on one of the busier roads in town, but that doesn't mean much here. I have a camera out front and checked to see how many vehicles go by between 10 PM and 5 AM for a few nights. Typically, it's one. The most I saw was three. It would be interesting to see during the day. I bet the average is one vehicle every 10 minutes.

I live on a rural highway, big trucks, bike crews and even stupid ass college kids fake cross country skiing...we get it all. The worst is the big rigs from the 80's and 90's that they run pulling the dirt loads. They are probably twice as loud as any harley I've heard. Not that the harleys impress me either. Luckily in about 5 years no one will be riding them anymore.
