Raptor style lights - Gen 3 SR5 OE grill

Have any of you installed Raptor style lights in a Gen 3 SR5 OE grill? I'm considering doing this, but don't want to be reinventing the wheel. Pictures please.

 

Well it appears that I will be breaking new ground.

It looks like it's going to work out nicely. I fabricobbled up some mounting brackets from some 1 1/2" right angle braces. They are glued in place with black RTV. I've used it for similar things in the past. It's secure, but can be removed if wanted.



I'm going to give the RTV 24 hours to cure before I mount the lights. In the meantime, I went ahead and wired them up in a harness.


All connections are soldered and shrink tubed. I tested them out with an add-a-fuse on the EFI 3 fuse. They turn on whenever the ignition switch is on. I may play around with other options later.

 

I think that they turned out OK.




They look even better in person than they do in these photos. I'm happy with how they turned out.

Edit: With the add-a-fuse on the EFI 3 fuse, the lights would come on for a few minutes about 4 - 5 hours after shutting down. I didn't particularly like that. I moved the add-a-fuse to the INJ fuse, and so far it appears to be working like I want. Lights on whenever ignition switch is on, and only then.

No, sorry. They're 1-1/2" by 1-1/2" corner braces that I picked up in the hardware department at Lowe's.

OK, here's a picture of one of the brackets taken from the back side. Notice that I elongated the hole so that I would have a little up/down adjustment. I used black RTV adhesive to glue the horizontal leg of the bracket under the grill cross piece. I used high tech clothes pin clamps to hold the bracket in place while the RTV set up. Simple is good !

Update: I replaced the 2019 SR5 grill with a 2020 SR grill that I painted to color match the truck.

Good work, man. Very cool. I have the 16 Sport grill so I'd have to get creative to fit lights in the narrow spaces to pull this off.

I chose the lights that I did because they're inexpensive, and direct replacements for them are available from several different manufacturers. They're one of many styles of marker lights used on semi tralers.

 

This is rad, wish I saw this before I just upgraded to Pro model grill for the Raptor Lights. Ended up ordering from toyotaproshop with mixed feelings... the grille is nice and all for non-OEM but the lights are just amber pods that have positive and negative wires coming about 4 inches off each pod.

I'm excited to tackle this wire job but am looking for some guidance. I'm going to go with the add a fuse option for now, knowing that I will have to create my own wire harness with all the positive ends going to an add a fuse and all the negatives going to a body ground. What gauge wires should I use to create this harness? Also, is a mini add a fuse needed? If anyone could help leading me in the right direction for materials to order from Amazon or auto zone to get this started would be much appreciated!!

In the mean time, i'll keep doing my research.

You need to use a LOW PROFILE MINI add-a-fuse, something like this:

My LED grill lights only draw 40ma each. Some are even less. I used 18 guage wire because of it's physical strenght. It's PLENTY big enough to handle the current. I also used a 2 pin flat connector, like a trailer connector, so I could easily remove and replace the grill. That's totally optional.

My original grill is looking for a new home. It has no broken tabs. Except for the light brackets and hole to mount the camera, its in perfect condition.

Must be picked up in Wilson, NC. I don't have a suitable box to ship it.
