How could I forget that one! One of few movies I'll rewatch anytime and love it just as much.

Just got reminded of one of my all-time favorite scenes in cinema. I have it memorized...

From the mini-series "Lonesome Dove"...Augustus McCrae and Pea Eye Parker sitting on a hill overlooking a herd of grazing buffalo...

    Gus: Pretty ain't they?
    Pea Eye: I reckon
Gus: Let's chase'em. Ya want to?
Pea Eye: Shoot us one for our supper?
Gus: No, I mean chase'em just for the sport of it.
Pea Eye: What? To run'em off?
Gus: No, you don't get the point do ya Pea Eye? I mean chase'em because, before too long there won't be any buffalo left to chase.
Pea Eye: Them bulls will hook you
    Gus: Yeah
Pea Eye: You remember Old Man Barlow? That buffalo hooked him bad.
Gus: Old Man Barlow was a slow thinker. Kinda like somebody else I could name.
Pea Eye: Well, he was a slow walker too when that buffalo got through with him. Wonder whatever happened to him?
Gus: He married a fat widow over on the Blanco River and had a passel of kids. Now, you might as well have done the same thing yourself. Since you don't wanta chase buffalo.
Pea Eye: I don't believe I'd wanta chase buffalo even if I was married.
Gus: Forget I even mentioned it.
Pea Eye: Well, I like bein' a bachelor Gus.
Gus: Well, that's good Pea Eye. I'm sure it's all part of God's plan, that you are one...

    Right you are.
And it's perhaps the most honest war movie ever made.

Many of the scenes were accurate recreations, right down to the dialogue.
For instance, when General Horrocks addressed 30th Corps officers before the operation.

I remember watching Saving Private Ryan in my local theater and a few WWII vets walked out in tears. Rough movie.

They Shall Not Grow Old is also fantastic.

Speaking of TV, I had to explain to our son the other day we didn't have the luxury of cartoons everyday anytime we wanted. It was only Saturday morning and we had to get up early to watch them and that's if dad didn't put us to work in the hay field, tobacco, or getting wood up for heat. And we HAD to watch commercials.

I was just telling my mom the other day that I still remember commercials from 40 years ago but can't remember the new ones for 15 minutes. Some of the Geico ones are pretty good.

Fury is missing from the poll. My dad was gunner in a tank destroyer. M18 Hellcat. Judging from the few times he talked about actual combat, it's spot on WRT WW2 armored combat.
