Morning Bama. Got a truck question that seems to be debated else where on TW that I would like y'alls feed back. What kind of spark plugs are best to run? What material and brand work well in these engines?

I believe the 2nd Gen V6 came with copper plugs that are supposed to be changed every 30K and the 4 cylinder came with iridium. Some say that you can run the iridium in the V6 and not have to change them as often. I just know there are a lot of other 2nd Gens in here that I would trust recommendations more than random peeps on TW.

I’ve had NGK iridiums in my V6 for roughly 40k without issues. I’ve always ran iridiums in all my vehicles, they do last longer than a standard plug but they are also more expensive on the front end.

Id take the spring off when you have a chance and try to seat them again and see if that helps. I know the springs were on a second gen. Dont know if they are gen specific. Thats really strange. Something is causing it!

    Did you call them?

oem copper plugs from Toyota are the best thing to get if you have the v6

the engine was designed using them, so why change it

I’d get rid of the shim. I’ve never seen the shackle like that before and it function normally.

Honestly I think the front spring mount is different from 2nd to 3rd gen. I’ll have to verify when I get home.

An axle shim won’t change anything with the shackle.

You ever get your leaf spring/u bolt issue addressed?

More fishing in the bay then! Catch some fish, gut em, throw em in a plastic bag, fill up bag with water and throw in the freezer. I’ll come pick up the fish from you when you get back.

It is just how the leaf pack is designed, there isn’t a spring retainer far enough in the rear to keep it from moving. The leaf that fanned out a bit is sitting on the front retainer, so it can’t move anymore.

I never had a u-bolt issue though. Maybe a flip kit that sits tighter on the leafs would stop it from moving and maybe it won’t. Matt’s fanned our with the oem u-bolt setup, so I’m guessing it won’t do much.

That’s crazy because the factory u bolts touch both sides of the leaf pack and hold it really tight. I’m hoping my Archive ones hold my leaf pack just as tight.
