I would offset that speculative stock purchase with some consumer staples, like a Kellogg, jnj, etc... when we drop into a recession those will maintain value over a theme park. Still keep the theme park for the long term as eventually people will be vacationing again.

Disclaimer I'm a dumbass on the internet and that isnt financial advice, invest at your own risk as always.

    Couple thoughts:
    (a) some may be listing relative to yesterday's close, others relative to today's open
    (b) are some of those delayed 15-20 minutes vs your brokerage giving realtime?

It's not the timing, it's been like that all day. Definitely point a above is what it is. It's just strange, and a little misleading for some of these quotes to not show that drop that definitely happened if you held through the last 2 days.

Edit: I think I get it. My brokerage is showing "my" value since I have held a long time. The daily quotes are just showing the daily move (from open to now). Makes sense.

Here's the thing - some brokerages - Fidelity for example, report the TRUE ex-dividend price (currently T, -.66$) others don't.

Yup that's it. I have no money manager, and never will, so I have to figure these things out myself.

Not sure if you got my sarcasm. Re-read what I wrote with tongue in cheek.

GILD was up on the promise of the corona virus drug, Remdesivir. Still don't have proof either way......yesterday the talk got more wobbly so I bailed. I was up an easy sleasy 10+% in a few days. Moving on. I hate playing drug study roulette frankly.

    That'd do it. Fidelity shows both "Today's Gain/Loss" and "Total Gain/Loss" figures ($ & %), so I didn't think of that one.

Here is a history of T from Yahoo Finance . Note the diff from the closing price to the adjusted price on the 7th . the next days stock price always changes from the adjusted close because market conditions change .

Yea I get that, after hours post-market and pre-market will change the closing price to a different open price the following day.

I was talking about something totally different, it is explained in a few of the above posts. It's just the way different brokerages quote ex-dividend date prices (dividend value depreciation accounted for vs. normal open price without depreciation).

That is beyond my understanding . Does it have to do with cost basis of a long term hold ? I do not see an adjustment in my TD ameritrade account cost basis for divs paid while holding a stock .

Well to picture it, if a company worth $100 million declares $1 million in dividends, that company is immediately then worth $99 million. That's where the depreciation comes from.

I learned today how my brokerage reflects that loss, while other quotes will ignore that and just show you the price action from open to current (the depreciation happens before the open).

hah, I was thinking the same thing :p

That's a disclaimer I can get behind! (and agree with statement, but I'd summarize as "long haul, diversify" to make it 3 words :D)

Right around the corner. People looking for reasons to optimistic, when the reality of what has happened hits, it will push the markets down a bit before things get back humming. That’s only my opinion, so it’s gotta be accurate
