Is your 45 degree cut actually 45 degrees? Two cuts will double any error you have in your angle and it doesn’t take much to make things not line up

 

The saw is calibrated, and I’m lining it up on 45. That’s about all I can say lol

 

I had to buy the Kreg jig to hold it at the correct angle along the fence of the saw.

 

Booooo. I don’t want another jig lol. Not for a one time job.

 

It’s not a question if your saw is set right, it’s really a question of your actual wall angles

 

As close to 90 as it can be..

 

Just cut it flat with the bevel at 33.85 and the miter at 31.62. There's lockouts on almost every saw for those angles. That's because it's how you cut crown molding properly. I've installed a lot of crown and I've never used a jig.

 

My crown molding is “vertically nested” though, not flat on the wall.

 

That's why they are weird angles. Here's a visual.

 

Yep. Just google flat cut crown molding. It's how I cut nested crown. It's a compound cut. The numbers I gave you are for a 38 degree spring angle. If your using 45 or 52 degree spring angle those numbers change but neither is that common.

ok. I think this is going to work. If I can wrap my head around it. I keep doing it exactly backwards on my scraps haha

 

Make sure you have good (new) blade in the saw for this, it'll make a difference.

 

I do. I just keep getting the turn and angle backwards it seems. Holy shit my brain hurts

 

If you can pencil the angles onto the piece before you cut it that might help, it is confusing as hell.

 

I have to quit for the night. I’m just frustrated and not thinking right.

Also, most saws have holes in the back of the fence to allow you to make the fence taller.
You simply screw a wider board to the fence.

 

that's a good video but it didn't show the kind of cut I need. I'm doing only inside corners, but not butting it up to a flat piece like in that video.

I don't have a coping saw, but...besides that....why does not coping work for some people? plenty of instructions don't say to cope.

 

Anyone in here have experience with fiber cement siding? Shears or special diablo blade to cut it?
