Yeah, I read a review somewhere.

So a soldier is carrying an important message to try to stop a doomed attack.
Phone lines to higher headquarters are severed.
The movie is all about that extremely hazardous mission, in one long take.
Lots of shit flying around (machine gun bullets, artillery).
    Blood and guts, of course.

I dunno, kinda pointless, like that war.
Unless you want to see one common man's terror and determination.
Wanna sit through that for a couple hours?
But surely we know that already.
They endured trench warfare for years. Hard to fathom how.

Just something I don't care to watch.

    Imagine, if you will...
You're told to dig a hole in a muddy field.
There's guys taking pot shots at you every so often, so you gotta keep your head down.
    Random explosions continuously.
Every now and then you gotta get out and try to kill other guys in holes across the way.
    Or they come for you.
Misery that goes on for months...years.

The Generals of that war have a lot to answer for.

The point of it was, the guy that was sent to inform of the troops not to attack, was the brother of one of them. He and his chosen person, who didnt want to go, had to run half way across France it seemed and if I remember rightly, they went ahead and attacked anyway and the kid that had the brother died along the way cause he was stupid, trying to show a German pilot some compassion after he just got shot down in a dog fight.

You know, the details don't make it seem any less pointless.
    Maybe it's just me.

Like I said, I didn't care for it. It was slow, boring and pointless

    I'm searching for a word.
    Futility?

    Sounds profoundly depressing.
Like I said in my edit, the generals of that war have a lot to answer for.
