Seconded. I have two crates that hold 3x MTM boxes each for loose pack (range time). My tac ammo is in 50 cal cans. Then I have multiple unopened crates for the bulk stuff like 556, 762, and 9mm. Everything is stored inside my house so it it temp and humidity controlled.

    Thanks for the reponses.
I am trying to consolidate and save space.
Will try ditching factory packaging and dumping round together in ammo cans.

Wish I had not bought so many MTM ammo crates last year.
Cans seem to be the way to go for space and portability.

Directly into the mags/clips, and if I run out of mags/clips then it goes in an ammo can for that caliber, but still in it's original box if there's any variety in loads. IE, all my 30-06 on clips in cans for my M1, all my 223 in mags then in cans without boxes because I only run 1 load, 9mm in mags, then boxed in cans because I have a mix of FMJ and HP, and all my 22lr is boxed in cans because my Marlin has no mags (yay tube feed!)

I don’t dump out boxes just because if there’s an issue and I need to contact the manufacturer...I’ll have all the box info

I ordered 2 boxes of Browning 6.5 Creedmoors a couple years ago, one of the boxes had a shell that didn't have a primer in it. I sent them an email and guess who sent me an email back? Winchester :D

They sent me a check for the price of the box of ammo.

If you stockpile ammo you should always keep a record of Lot numbers and receipts. Especially when you are storing it for long periods of time. It did not happen regularly, but a couple of times a year I would get ammo recalled while I was on active duty.

I haven’t bought factory ammo in years, I reload everything. I store plinking ammo loose in .30 cal ammo cans. It’s amazing how many rounds you can fit in one can. I haven’t actually counted but I think you can fit close to 1000 rounds of 9mm in a 30 cal ammo can if it’s loose. Ammo for serious stuff I store various boxes, but there isn’t nearly as much of that.

the subcompact that just came out I'd want in 9mm. Sorry that wasn't clear. I don't think they offer the subcompact in 22.

I keep everything in the boxes they come in then in ammo cans separated by size. Lot numbers can be what helps a manufacturer with issues and such. I try to finish boxes instead of leaving with 5 rounds left of a 100 round box
